Ring in with you normalized power (assuming you have CP software) during your most recent Crit races. I did one today and it was 259W and my avg HR was 91%max. I felt kinda slammed at first, but as people started to slow down i felt better! but my PT computer fell of the mount and i had to go back and get (those things are $165, and i WILL stop in a C priority race to go pick it up). I was unable to get a free lap because it was too far into the race. DETAILS! I WANT DETAILS!!

Here's my most recent crit (end of Jan). I'm Cat4, but this was Masters 55+.

That file looks funny. Did you zero out? Did you win?

my last crit was in 2004, about 90-mins long, and 1/2 category. finished in the leading group of 10 (towards the back as i can't sprint), aftwer bridging solo with 3 laps to go. think we averaged about 45 km/hr. my NP was 230 W

i think (and it's a bit of guess, as it's a long time ago) the last time i rode a cat 3 only crit my NP < 200 W.

You worked way too hard in that race =).

That file looks funny. Did you zero out? Did you win?Yes, I zeroed out. I didn't win, 7th IIRC. I really considered it a training race, so I was out to just see what it takes to stay with the better riders in my area.

ScottProbably did. I'm not a crit specialist and my sprint is only so-so (~1KW). I prefer RRs, so I ride crits as sort of a different variety of training rides.

BTW, the NP is high relative to speed because the course was very tight. We were constantly turning.

It still doesn't look right. There are no zero torque or zero cadence readings in the whole half hour and all of the low torque readings are right around 20 in-lbs with the min being 17.

There are a few low power episodes of about 60w where cadence suddenly shoots up to 141rpm. There are also 19 occurences of 0 speed during the race.

Were you able to pedal while applying low power during every single corner of this tight crit even while braking?

IIRC, I was still experimenting with ways to eliminate the frame vibration at the receiver, so I think those gaps were caused by frame vibration (subsequently solved). Apart from the gaps, I don't see many inconsistencies.

soooo.......what is everyone's NP in their most recent crit? lolStill avoiding the original question somewhat.
Most recent 4/5 Road Race:
NP = 290 watts for 1st hour (I was dropped at the 1hr mark halfway up a climb)
NP = 265 watts for the entire 40 mile race (2nd hour was essentially an ITT)

weight: 75kg
height: 5'11"

The posted race files aren't working for you? You said you wanted details.

There are no places anywhere in the graph where your power production is zero. The minimum power for your entire race is 55 watts. That's indicative of a serious problem with either the file or the calibration of your power meter.

--SteveAs I said above, I'm pretty sure I was still having vibration problems with the receiver for that ride. What happens (on ti bikes) is that when you freewheel (power = zero), the vibration from the pawls transmits through the frame to the receiver and you get dashes on the computer until you turn the cranks again. The hub is sending data but the receiver is not receiving it due to vibration. I think the zero power production observations show up as nulls (at least for watts and speed) in the file. Those probably corresponded to the very brief moments when I was completely off the cranks before accelerating away from the turn on the one turn that was more than 90 degrees. Apart from those few moments each lap, I can recall being able to pedal with leg weight alone (~100W), but I can't recall being able to completely coast very often, so I'm not surprised there aren't more times when power = zero. The more curious observations are when cadence bounces briefly to 141rpm with low power. I'm sure those are errors, although I don't know the cause. I haven't seen that since, but then I fixed the vibration problem right after that ride so it may have been the same cause (vibration). Anyway, I don't care much. That ride is history. I'm more concerned with my upcoming target rides in September.
