I wear (and sell) an Australian copy of a Japanese glove by TUFF. Carbon knuckles, all white leather, full fingered. $60Aus.
Can get you a clear picture if interested. (Unclear pic attached)
They are very nice and give you a feeling of protection and good traction on the Soyo long grips. They feel a bit stiff to begin with but after wearing/sweating in them a few times they mould to your hand shape and fit...well, like a glove! You can speed up the "breaking in" process by making them soaking wet with water and wearing them with fists lightly clenched for a couple of hours (while watching TV?) That will also mould them to your hand.
I wear the Tanabe gloves.... They have several models...

Just curious, as a new track newby (and already junky), what's with the Keirin gloves? Carbon padded knuckles so you can duke it out and not bust a hand?

Carbon to face has a devastating effect........
I read somewhere that it is because in the Japan Keirin school, the students are taught NOT to let go of the handlebars when falling. Therefore the knuckles require protection from grinding into the concrete. Hands on bars is supposed to lessen the chances of breaking a collarbone, or something like that.
I'd love to watch them practise their falls over and over,....... and over again...until they got it right. The urge to put your arm out as you are falling must be hard to overcome.

Hello WarrenG
Nice to meet you!!
>What gear do you use? 49x14?
I am using 48tx13t by Keirin race.
I debuted to 24 years old and it debuted to the professional.
It was 49tx14t that I debuted. (I'm 48years old now)
49tx14t > 46tx13t > 47tx13t > 48tx13t
Generally, the gear ratio of the bicycle is written in Keirin race of Japan as
follows.
chainring/cogs : 48t/13t =3.69
Gear ratio chiefly used by Keirin race
50tx14t,51tx14t
Size of gear that use permission is done with Keirin race
dhainring:44t-55t
cogs:12t-16t
The largest ratio in Keirin race
55tx12t
>What is the normal top speed in your keirin races?
This changes by the situation and the weather of the race.
last 200m lap time 12.2sec.(my best lap is 11.3 sec.)
about 59km/h
Ride safe!!
