Pyrnees/Alps Tour July 2006 - need advice

Im looking for someone who will also be touring through France in July and wants to meet up.

As of now I will be starting a tour through France in the Pyrenees in the beginning of July and heading towards the Alps with my final destination being Alpe d'Huez to catch the tour as it passes by with the rest of the crazies. Anybody up for joining me for this stretch of touring? I'm thinking it will take a little under two weeks to make that distance, then I will be training it back to Barcelona.

If anyone has any advice on a good route, I would love to hear it. Also, right now I just have a racing bike that I am going to put a 27 tooth cassette on. Im going to have panniers but am packing as lightly as possible, camping along the way with a few hotel stops just to freshen up.

I'll be heading up the Joux Plane to watch the stage there, but sadly we'll only be in the area a couple of days.
Unless you're seriously fit and used to riding in the mountains, have a serious think about your gearing. You don't say if you've got a double or triple setup. If triple, you should be fine. If double, 39/27 might seem like it will get you up a wall, but by the time you've been climbing 15km it will probably seem like torture, especially hauling panniers. I have 39/26 on my normal road bike but I know for sure I wouldn't get up Alpe D'Huez with it!

Hello, I will actually be in the Alps from 10 July - 5 August to climb a lot of the major TDF climbs in the area and would enjoy the company of a riding partner.

I am currently working on the World Cup until July 5 and am organizing a trip to the French Alps to climb a lot of the major TDF climbs in the region (Galibier, Alp d'Huez, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Izoard, etc.) and the Pyrenees (Mt. Vetoux and Tourmalet) from 10 July - 05 August and am looking for riding partners to tackle these climbs.

I already have an apartment in Alpe d'Huez for the abovementioned dates (TDF rolls through on 18 July) to use as a "basecamp" and a vehicle to get me to the Pyrenees climbs.

If you are going to be in the area during the same time period and require a place to stay or if you are going to be in the area and would like a riding buddy contact me as well.

Either way, just looking for some folks to ride with and experience the Alpes.
