Hi guys

Wondered what rubber you are all wearing for the commute. I'm wanting a good tyre that wont let me down in the wet, but also lets me go faster than the London Cabbies!! (700x28)

im in sydney i use a tyre called Geax

if you have a skinny bike they have many ranges to suit your need im not experienced in that area so ill just say that for my Wheeler pro39 with 26*1.9 i use Geax Street runner or Geax evolution depending on the day and application street runner provide smoth running and are reliable whn combined with thorn resistant tubes.

i m on the evolution with thorn resistant and finding little or no issues

I recently wore my rear tyre down to the canvas (I could see through it in places when I got a flat and had to replace the tube on the way to work), so I replaced it with a gator tyre. Its supposed to have a kevlar lining that makes it puncture resistant, and the guy in the shop reckoned it was good for 5000 km.

No punctures so far, but no really wet days either. I'm very happy with it. It cost about $AUS70, but if i avoid a few flats, it is worth the money.

I run 28 mm (slightly narrower in reality) Panaracer Pasela Tourguards, which are kevlar-belted. They're not as indestructible as Specialized Armadillos, but they're much lighter and foldable---fast and convenient. I also find the Paselas to be grippier in wet conditions than the Sp. All-Condition Armadillos I previously used. Lots of wet streets in Seattle, so I pay attention.

Search around...lots of opinions about this out there... Other popular models for worry-free commuting include Continental 3000/4000GP, Schwalbe Marathon...

I agree about Speicalized tires. I had some kevlar reinforced Speicalized Hemispheres that just yesterday I was finally forced to replace because of tread seperation on the front. I put roughly 8,000 miles on those tires, and never had a flat.

Yesterday I installed some Michelin Transworlds, They're narrower than the Hemispheres, and somewhat lower pressure as well, but they're very smooth-riding, have low rolling resistance, are reinforced for puncture resistance, and they have a reflective sidewall. I'll have to put a few hundred miles on them before I decide if they're as good as the Specialized, but in any case they were a lot cheaper!

Michelin Pro Race on the front
Specialized Armidillo on the back both 700x23.

The pro race keeps the front tracking well around fast corners and the armidillo is more flat resistant. I tend to get more rear flats than fronts.

Consider mixing tyres front and rear, throw a bit of a wider tyre on the rear (than the front) if you are worried about flats. Just dont go for too big of a difference.

Im using Serfas Seca front and rear and never had a problem with them. Roll fairly well for a every day commuter

Whatever happens to be on the bike.

At the moment thats Vittoria Rubino Pro. Inexpensive Kevlar Belted. I've looked quite a lot at what commuters on racers have on their bikes and these were the most common in my area, however thats changing, it seems that they wern't as domminate as they use to be and now theres a lot more variety on the racers being used as commuters.

I've got some Mitchlen Pro Race 2 in the draw waiting for the Vittoria's to wear out.
