Tyson,

Lucy's trouble with her KK surprised me. In my view, Lucy's experience was the exception and not the rule. I recommend the KK trainer to friends based on what I've read in other forums, my own experience (1 year) and the longer experiences that 4 other riders I know have had with their KK trainer.
Culew, where have you been old buddy, browsing other cycling forums?http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d150/tinkletinkle_/eusa_naughty1.gif

Thanks for your input. Of course we are mostly only going to hear from people who have a problem with the KK. I can't remember, do you have a power meter too? TYSON

Curlew, where have you been old buddy, browsing other cycling forums? No, just waiting for you to take off on the next phase of your training so I can catch your wheel and get pulled closer to an FT of 300 watts!:D

I can't remember, do you have a power meter too? Not yet. Hopefully by the end of this season. I use the little KK Power Computer on the KK Trainer. That is where my watt estimates are coming from for Critical Power and FT tests.

Hey, I really enjoyed the pictures you posted of the views and terrain where you ride!

Seriously though, my cycling buddy and I are definitely considering the up Mt. Fuji 17 Km race this year. (with thanks to Nomad for the info)

That's a great shot of Mt Fuji did you take that picture? More like that!:) I would think cycling training for an uphill running race would be very effective and maybe vice versa is that the case or will it cause detraining in cycling?

You are not 40 years old are you Btw? If you were, you would then be known as WD40.:D

My KK road machine is now set up in my hallway waiting for me to give it a try. I put the bike on it (the changing skewers bit is a little annoying, do most of you ride with the skewer that comes with the trainer just to not change the thing out?) 2 1/2 turns to get the wheel to not slip.

I've got nice weather tomorrow and a rest day on Friday. Saturday, rain. Since I'm going to rack up some extra TSS on Sunday with a pretty fast group ride, I'll take to this new monster on Saturday and do some experimentation. I'll probably just ramp through the gears and see what the power ranges are and how the trainer "feels" at different wattages.

It's not an uphill running race. It's 16.5 km uphill on a bike! Average grade 7%

I myself will probably do the other race in June that climbs up the Subaru Line (24km, avg 5%:D) at the other side of Mt. Fuji for the third time this year.

If you've been following this thread, then you know that the gym where I train is like an oven.

A friend took this video of me training there.

No need to enter the forum, just take a look at the video. http://www.techvana.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

KenI might be there for that one instead. My "A" race for the spring is May 3rd, and doing Fuji on the 22nd of April isn't feasible.

On a side note... I think we've hijacked this to the "Cyclists in Japan and the others"

Now if only some of you would move down here to BFE where I am!

Please note Ken what the organizers of the above race say.

Please refrain as much as possible from engaging in trial runs along the Fuji Subaru Line for the purpose of training prior to the event.

It's not an expensive problem though and I am still using the trainer and if I had a rear wheel computer I would still be able to calculate watts. 1upusa.com and the KK people have contacted me and are backing up the product if I have any trouble.

If I'm reading the earlier posts correctly, it seems that the KK trainer is somewhat unreliable, having a tendency to breakdown. And these are the only ones we know about. Anyone else had trouble with the KK?

Buy a powertap and a KK.
