My bike was $340 including shipping:o it's full chromoly with Sora components. My trainer with computer was $324. I doubt any one here is cheaper than that.:) I don't doubt you will build a great engine for it if you are riding you're KK regularly this winter keep it up....striveth for the mastery...
My friends were joking me because I bought a 300 dollar trainer, while I only spent 700 for my bike.
My reply... Yeah the bike was cheap but I'm gonna build it a heck of an engine!

The Kinetic Pro is my new trainer. The 18 pound flywheel is awesome. I tried one ride with the 6 pound flywheel and stopped 10 minutes into the ride to add the 12 pounder back on because the quality of the ride was so much better with the heavy setup. The majority of my trainer time is steady state L3-5. If I were to do micro-intervals or an L6 workout I'd take the 12 pounder off. I use a PT pro to measure power. aebikes had it for 310.00 with ~8.00 for shipping.

My bike is 200 dollars. Its a weird hybrid bike, with a mix of components, it doesn't even have drop bars. I'm not sure, but it might give me the edge in the crappiest bike competition. I also use a Kurt Kinetic trainer, and I just bought a set of Kreitler rollers used. Fortunately I've been saving my meager salary so I'll be able to buy a new road bike or a powertap or perhaps both at the start of next month.

C'mon Tyson, apparently 20 mins on a trainer isn't that much

"........An Illinois man may have ridden his way into the Guinness Book of World Records, but he didn't ride anywhere. Instead, 49 year old George Hood spent 85 hours on a stationary bike at a Burr Ridge, Illinois sports club in an attempt to have his name written into the book. The record still needs to be certified by the Guinness book officials, but his mark surpasses the previous record of 82 hours......"
LOL. Maybe I should have added "at the desired intensity". I'm still doing 1 hour or more on the trainer every time I go to the gym but at a much reduced intensity. TYSON

It wouldn't need brakes, of course. It could have the cheapest components and wheels available since weight obviously doesn't matter. There are probably bikes on eBay for <$200 that would do quite nicely.

OK you win let me know when you get your new road bike though so I can be the cheapest guy in the cycling training sub forum again.:)

I called the Kurt Kinetic people over the weekend and left a message about the battery going dead on my power computer after less than 3 months and they just called and said they are sending me a new battery for free.

Has RD every steered you wrong? Just look at his suggestions then look at your check book balance and buy the best you can afford or as in my case the best your wife will let you buy.:)

When you enter a Japanese bank, you have to set your watch back 60 years.
I closed one of my accounts down last week - it took me 1 hour. I was absolutely fuming with this f----ing idiot in front of me shuffling bits of paper and pressing the occasional key on his computer. All in all it took 4 people to deal with it.
Also when you go into a Japanese bank, you take a number from the machine and wait to be called. I usually go to the gym and do a couple of 20 minute intervals and have my lunch while waiting to be called. When you finally get to the counter, you tell them what you want and put all your information in a neat little tray and the girl says, "please sit down, I'll call you".
I then go and do 4x5minutes VO2Max intervals.
Your tray is at this time being passed around the bank from person to person in ascending superiority. Meanwhile, the girl has called someone else's number and deals with them while your little tray is in transit.
Finally she calls you and sweetly says sorry to keep you waiting. Bah!!!http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d150/tinkletinkle_/0931.gif

I have to say that I had a similar experience - the power computer for my KK trainer kept continuously resetting whilst pedalling, and after emailing a query to the KK folks, they responded by saying that they'd send me a new power computer, which arrived in a jiffy. Can't ask for better than that. :)

Well that's interesting I hope the battery change works I need to know my average power soon. Right now I'm just going by cadence and gear combos that I know are on target I wish my original bike computer had a rear wheel speed sensor instead of front then I could calculate power from average speed. I can't even go by average cadence because when I get out of the saddle I switch gears and cadence.

For what its worth, my power computer recently started having problems too. All of the averaging functions stopped working correctly. Fortunately I can still use it. I think I'll call them up tomorrow as I have put it off for almost a month.

How do you calaculate power from average speed?
I would of thought the algorithm would have too many unknown variables to be accurate.
Perhaps you are aiming for repeatability not accuracy.

Bill. The KK website has the details on their power estimation algorithms. It's true that there are several variables that result in variance (e.g., tires, tire pressure). And, the power/speed relationship drifts a bit during long intervals (e.g., 20mins). So, it's nothing more than an approximation. But, that's sufficient for targeting adaptations (just not bragging rights). I have several teammates who are getting KK trainers and I will be calibrating them with my PT SL. It will be interesting to see how much difference there is between different units.

If I'm reading the earlier posts correctly, it seems that the KK trainer is somewhat unreliable, having a tendency to breakdown. And these are the only ones we know about. Anyone else had trouble with the KK?

I don't have as much time on KK trainer as many here, but I do like it.
Pretty good for a self-inflicting pain device. :)

Lucy's trouble with her KK surprised me. In my view, Lucy's experience was the exception and not the rule. I recommend the KK trainer to friends based on what I've read in other forums, my own experience (1 year) and the longer experiences that 4 other riders I know have had with their KK trainer.
