What's with all this welcome back? Have I been somewhere I don't know about?:D
I seem to recall a post along the lines of...
......Unfortunately you have posted at the demise of this thread.... :(
and it would seem that the 'power' bug has bitten again (and quite hard by the sound of it ;) ) so we're all glad you're back with us, sharing your tales and enthusiasm :D

LOL Anyway, it's xmas day here in Japan, just cooking the chicken. My cycling buddy and his Japanese wife are coming for xmas dinner. I was thinking of spiking his drink with something that makes him put on weight. :(

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE AND DON'T EAT TOO MUCH.;)

If you can get all the protein you need from a peice of meat the size of a deck of cards why would you take protein powder?

Hi Wiredued,

That's an interesting statement. How many grams of protein do you reckon you'd get from a piece of meat the size of a deck of cards and how many grams of meat (before cooking) are you talking about? Are you sure that's enough?

One reason I ask is because I'd like to reduce my meat intake but I'd be concerned about not getting enough protein and losing muscle.

I was just using that size as an easy description of a typical 3 ounce serving of meat you would have at meal time I think it was Linus Pauling who said that was enough. I don't agree with everything Linus Pauling says but I would agree that the american diet is high in protein so I don't worry if I'm getting enough. Timing the intake of this meal within 45 minutes after a workout I think is important though.

I'll stick to my protein drink after a workout, it's easier.

Still that's the least of my problems at the moment. In the gym where I train which is run by the City Hall, they have wound the central-heating up to cater for all the old diddies to the point of being unbearable for serious trainers.
Last winter it didn't matter much as I chugged away at 130-150 watts. However when you ramp things up to 250W and above it's a whole new ball game.
I have had a job even trying to complete a 20 min interval. As a consequence I've had to lower, and lower the wattage just to get through a workout.
I'll soon be back at 150W if it gets much hotter!:D

What effect this will have when the weather warms up and the gym cools down, I can only imagine. As the perceived effort is great, I'm hoping it won't have to greater an adverse effect. Time will tell.:(

Temp is a big deal on the trainer and air flow is almost as important. The effect of your body having to work harder to stay cool really robs you of power. Too bad. Can you bribe the person in charge of the thermostat? A donut, maybe?

I think Tyson deserves an indoor trainer of his own I train with a big fan in front of me and still need a dry shirt before I'm done I can imagine what a 72 F room would do to me.

Yeah, seriously considering getting a trainer but I shall miss all those gorgeous Japanese beauties in the gym. Talking of trainers though, everyone seems to have their favourite and swear by it.

This one appeals to me but..... who knows. Tacx Cosmos trainer Tyson

Power measurement on a tacx trainer is not reliable. I have ordered a Cycleops Pro 300PT which I hope to get soon (first promis was before christmas). Real power measurements combined with a heavy flywheel. It's only a fixed flywheel so cycling is a little bit different from normal cycling.

If he wants a trainer to use with his road bike, I would recommend the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. The 300PT is a good choice. Another option is the CompuTrainer Pro. It requires a bike, but has the benefits of a heavy flywheel and it can be used in ergometer mode. All good choices. Decisions, decisions,...:D

just out of interest, why is a heavy flywheel important?

just out of interest, why is a heavy flywheel important? There's a whole thread on that somewhere. I'll try to find it. Among other things, it is a more road-like feel. There's a lot more, I'll try to find the thread from a few months back.

Here it is http://www.cyclingforums.com/t343971.html.

Can't ride that, it's got no pedals!

It's new years day here and I'm off on my first ride of 2007 in the mountains, and have startling news to reveal upon my return. Catch you all later. TYSON ;)

I have always been honest about the ups and down in my training and the same goes for my weight. This New Year's morning after all the festivities, I weighed in at a positively obese 75.5 kilos. A DISGUSTING FAT BLOB!http://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_evil.gif

I did 40 miles in the mountains this morning and my triceps were killing me - probably from trying to support the weight of the tub of lard sitting on the saddle.http://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/009.gif

Anyway, this year is going to be different. I had a good long talk with myselfhttp://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/014.gif in fact it got a bit heatedhttp://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/021.gif. I said, I, me, the guy in the front is the boss, not you, the annoying little voice in the background who says, go on have a piece of chocolate, have another doughnut etc.

Watch my lips. I'm starting off the new year with an iron will, and nothing will get in the way. And to the little voice in the background I say,http://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/097.gif

LOL If it makes you feel any better I went from 89 to 93 kg over the holidays. I have a race fit bike the seat is about two inches higher than the handle bars. It makes it hard to use the drops when my legs hit my 9kg pooch.:)

Looks like no pedals are in! I'm thinking of removing the pedals from by bike, as Ive got to get rid of some weight somewhere.http://forums.imesh.com/forums/images/smiles/043.gif

I think we've had this discussion before a long time ago. Just get 2 holes drilled through the side of my feet - slip an axle through - bolt up and Tysons your uncle.

Speaking of weight, yesterday I was 75.6 kilos, this morning I'm 74.3Kilos and falling.

So WD, if I can do it so can you, just tell the little voice to pee off!
How's your weight at the moment RD? You're very quiet.;)
