That sounds like a workable plan. If the pace of your group is 300W (on front) and if you can draft ~6 mins for every minute you're on front then your NP will be ~235W (using a draft power of 220W). You might be able to manage that for the duration of the event. My advice is to keep your pulls short in the first half of the ride. Everybody will want to go to the front early on and pull long and hard to show how strong they are. My advice is to take full advantage of this misguided exuberance and save yourself. There will be plenty of opportunities to take long pulls in the second half when everybody's trying to avoid the front. I assume you've changed your tires to something with low rolling resistance. Personally, I'm now riding the Michelin Pro2 Race tire when rolling resistance matters (e.g., races). And if the roads are smooth, I'd go with the Tufo Tubular Clincher at 220psi. Tires make a big difference. You're ready. Have a great ride!:D
Thanks for your sensible advice as always and well wishes for the "race". I intend to take the day off tomorrow and just relax.

As for the tyres, I'm on the same as you and 2 days ago changed the rear tyre which seemed to have taken a bit of a beating. I feel strong but when you're up against young bucks ..........:D

Good luck on your friendly ride this weekend. You're obviously trained, tapered and ready to ride this event like a road race. Hope you ride safe, go well and enjoy the event.

But have to ask, why worry about pulling at all for the lead group? As an old guy, the rule (OK, my rule) is that you're entitled to sit on and use your advanced wheel sucking and pacing skills developed over the years. Leave the display of power and machismo to the young studs until the opportunity is right to strike. You're in Japan after all; they should have great respect for their elders.

I feel strong but when you're up against young bucks ..........:DGood idea about changing your rear tire. I have a set of Pro2 Race tires for races only and I replace them after a few hundred miles and put the old ones in the training tire inventory. Too bad you don't have a fast set of wheels. I'm building up a whole set of race wheels (front and rear), with different rim widths for different wind conditions. Wheels and tires are the easiest way to get more speed from your power.

My thoughts exactly. Tyson, just sit on the back and let each rider fall in front of you as they drift back from the front. You'll look like the cagey veteran who's letting the young bucks wear themselves down before showing them how it's done. By the time they realize you're really a SillyOldTwit, the ride will be 3/4's over.

Alternately, you can hang a handicapped placard from your bike seat and claim that you're in special parking. :D

Seriously, though, just because you can hang in the paceline while the guy up front is pulling at 300w, don't forget that you'll still have to hammer at 350w+ to hold your spot on the hills. Best to start a bit conservatively. Good luck.

Hey Tyson!

I have found myself looking forward to this weekend all week now and it is because of YOUR ride and not mine. This is it!! BIWA II! Good luck. What a great ride!

This is the image that comes to my mind (http://www.navy.mil/navydata/aircraft/fa18/cat1.mov) when I try to imagine what it will look like when you line up for the start of your ride. Power on!

Hey Tyson.

Seems we're in a similar position in terms of power output at the moment, held 300 watts for 5 minutes when I tested myself today. Race you to 20 :D .

Thanks for all you good wishes guys and gals, and also the amusing videos.

I think for anyone who might be interested a little translation of the Mister Donuts one would be nice.
In Japan if you move into an apatment block say, you knock on your neigbours door/doors and say as the girl does in the ad "I've just moved in, greetings, and here's my little offering" (not a strict translation). Of course the guy has already bought 10 donuts and now he has 20 to wade through.

I wonder if he's doing L.Biwa - he will need to after that lot.

One little downer to report.

My wife came home last night and said "I've backed the car into a post."
So our nice new car now has a big dent in the rear. I say to myself it's only a chunk of plastic and metal, but nevertheless I can't help it, I feel a bit depressed today. My only hope is that the feeling wears off by tomorrow morning.:(

I can't see myself doing 1x20 @ 300W this side of next Spring, if ever.

Wellll, i'm 19, but on the other hand I have a strong tendancy to "not get around" to doing any training for periods of a week or so at a time. So you'll probably beat me  .

Feel better - knock on a neighbor's door w/donuts - crank out 300W for 5 again - anything to brighten things up. http://cyclingforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

And in English English, what is trash talking exactly?:(Trash talking is a term for taunting and derogatory comments usually associated with sports. In cycling, an example would be another rider passing you on a hill and saying, "Is that all you've got?":D

It's funny, but I didn't get that impression. I thought he was saying we are at the same level, let's see who can get to 300Wx20 first. Or maybe reading between the lines "I think I can get to 300Wx20 before you."

If so, that would be a great pic, you blasting by your nemesis while tapping out a message to the forum.:D
