View Full Version : Salt replacement
Does anyone know whether it is enough to simply drink fluid with salt in it (ie Sodium Chloride), or is it essential to also have Potassium as well?
Also, many sports drinks have Sodium Citrate in them rather than Sodium Chloride, while others also contain magnesium sulphate. Again, do you really need these, or is just plain table salt good enough?
I want to know because I am making up my own drinks and gels. (the cost saving is a factor of around 20 !!!!), and have all the carbohydrate and protein stuff figured out, but just wanted to sort out the electrolytes.
Thanks,
Harrow,

Salt replacement
Small amounts of potassium and magnesium are also lost in sweat, but nowhere near the amounts of salt.
