View Full Version : New Hubs needed???
hey..i am currently riding on a stock scott voltage yz 1. i am thinking of changing to disc brakes (avid bb5) and am wondering whether it is necessary to change the hubs. i went to my LBS and asked the person about disc brakes. he said tt i had to change my hub if i am going to change to disc brakes. do i really need to? i dun really know the dimensions of the hub but the fork is disc compatible....i need some advice here..thanks

New Hubs needed???
well, the disc of the brake actually bolts directly onto the hubs. If your hubs are not disc ready then you'll have buy new ones that are.
simple as that. you cant avoid it if you want to change over to discs.
it will probably be easier to buy a new set of wheels rather than try to replace the hubs.

if your hubs are disk compatible then they might look similar to the first image. If they look like the second image then they are not compatible.
In the first pic you can see the mounts where the disk will be bolted to your hub.
also you need mounts on your frame to accommodate the brake itself.
