The UCI do it again...
The UCI have decided to bin the kilo and 500m TT for the Olympics...only the two most watched track events by non cyclists. Talk about taking the excitement away. Not saying the other events are not exciting - but to encourage non-cyclists to take up the sport, well, UCI you are great ambassadors - yeah right.

For what its worth I have written to the UCI expressing my disapointment in their decision making.

Please feel free to do the same:

It's a bewildering decision. And to make way for BMX! Gimme a break! If they had to cut a track event it could have been the Olympic Sprint which has always seemed a pretty pointless event to me. Not one of the classic disciplines like the kilo. The UCI should be encouraging track racing not killing it.

I have just read and signed the online petition:

"Don't let track cycling die"

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition

service, at:

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might

agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider

signing yourself.

Best wishes,

Rooman

The UCI should also lobby to have more cycling and remove other superfluous events too...but well I'm looking in the sky and can't see many flying porkies these days!!

Agreed. This is a completely baffling move on their part.

The petition is a great idea.... I hope it has some influence.

Kilo and 500M gone...

What's amazing is the fact that it was so easy to do the kilo from a production standpoint. The velodrome is already there. The cameras are in place from the other events. Each run takes just over 1 minute.

I loved watching the kilo last summer on TV while in Europe. My brother was pissed that sorry ass American TV had none of it. Way to promote the sport UCI, IOC, USAcycling. So who actually signed off on this? This was one of the purest events. Man against himself and the clock. Judges can't cheat or be bought off.

BMX is nice I guess, but c'mon. If they need BMX ($$$ i guess) then add it, but don't take away a great traditional event(s). So what if there is an extra cycling event. Get rid of some ridiculous stuff like Curling or the retards power walking. For that matter swimming is nice, but I really don't need to see a race of 50m 60m 70m and so on. If it HAS to be a cycling event get rid of the Madison, no one knows what the hell is going on anyway...

Sprinters just got screwed!
