Hi All,

Just signed onto this forum hoping to get some tips. I bought a uni off Ebay three weeks ago (old style Pashley 24" with narrow wheel), have had a few goes on it, have got to the point where I can launch into "the abyss" and (usually) gracefully dismount after half a turn of the wheel. I'm struggling to go further!

I saw a post on this group from someone using golf clubs as "walking sticks". Had a ferret in the garage and found some crutches left over from when the missus broke her leg about twenty years ago. Had a wobble in the front room, but had partaken of beer and didn't get far!

Any tips on how to progress would be welcome!

Martin / (Gloucestershire UK, 50 yo)

Real progress this evening. I realised that it's much easier to cycle from a position with the pedals horizontal to the next 180 degree position. That's probably obvious to everyone else, but it was a breakthrough for me! Managed to cross the front room several times aided only by a single crutch! Even managed a complete revolution of the wheel without aid several times.

Nice going mate good to hear your making some progress just stick at it and dont give up if you get frustrated take a little break
It took me about three weeks to learn how to ride in a clean straight line and its the best feeling in the world and when you get past this stage things start happening a lot faster so stick at it
Some day it will just click... ...... ....
And its good to see people finally posting threads but theres bound to be a lot more one wheelers out there get posting people dont be shy:rolleyes:

i am in canada does that not make us neighbors? my wife give me a unicycle a few years ago. i practised for many hours in the house in the hallway. bounce bounce. many many hours, i might add. ended up trying shopping carts at safeway and i still just suck at it. i get about 4 cranks and then i crash. i am at an age where falling hurts. actually thinking about falling hurts. any advice would be appreciated. thanks

By the sound of it your trying too hard if you feel like your starting to fall, just step off dont try to ride it out.this will stop you from falling and give you a chance to think about why you were starting to fall and not how bad it hurt when you did.Aim for about 2 or 3 controled cranks and step off then after a while move up too 3 or 4.
Hope this helps and stick at it

I'm out here. I am really into touring / road cycling. I rode a unicycle pretty good when I was a kid. I found an old uni in garage sale last month. After 40 years of not being on one, I got on it and rode it almost like I never stopped. I bought it. Now I always give my neighbors a good laugh.

I had a DM Ringmaster a few years ago but sold it as I was making little progress and didn't use it for ages. I really regret it now. I am going to buy another DM Ringmaster off a friend and really want to crack it this time.

That crutches idea is fantastic. I have a pair in my garage after breaking my leg Snowblading in 2000.

Does anyone know of any unicycling clubs close to Sutton Coldfield/Birmingham/Tamworth as it's a bit embarrassing at my age trying to learn in the park?

Hi there. And the saga continues... A virus from outer space crashed into the Earth infecting unicyclists making them disapear from message boards. Little by little the few survivors managed to find each other on cyclingforums.com.. Kind of random but I'm still working on my hypothesis. Bwa haaa haaa
