I would like to look at maybe getting into track cycling. I was just wondering what is a good weight and height for someone in this sport?. I am currently about 6'1'' and 220 lbs. My body fat is about 7%. I love riding and have tried road racing, but my body weight, even lean, is a problem. I was a very good sprinter in highschool. So why not let that work for me. Does anybody have any ideas on this, before I got out and buy a bike. Also any training tips to get started.

Any comments would help
Thanks-darthkeys

I think sprinting would be ideal for you. You'll definitely find track racing a lot more exciting than road. Training tips? Well, that depends on what sort of shape you're in and what you need to work on. Best thing to do is go to a track and try it out. Find out what it's like. Try all the events and pick the brains of local riders. That's the best way to get started.

Thanks-darthkeys There is a wide range of body types that would fit successful track riders. You need to try it first and find some people at your local track to learn from.

I agree. The only thing I would add is that your weight would suggest you will enjoy track more than road (god I hate hills). Track racing though is as much about your personality type and attitude as physical size, Trackies, on the whole, tend to be a little louder and more aggressive than our roadie mates.
