HEY all you crazy cycling maniacs out there! I just got off the phone with a great riding buddy and we're already excited for the 05' season! I'm 21, been riding last 4 season's hardcore. Got around 3,000 miles last season -shooting for 4,000 this time around. Love to be a roadie, but suffer from mountain bike tendencies. Like to do a few events throughout the season, but also racing a little on the mb. From Wisconsin...brrrr!

Hope you all have your trainers set up!

Back on bike after 25 years lay off. Pretty good at TT Track and Road, but now a little more sedate at 43! fit levels OK but training methods have changed. Happy doing club runs at good pace but have no training plan or turbo just yet. Any ideas or general advice to get me back in the fast lane?

G'day Banterme, good to hear that you've got the bike out of the shed, or wherever it has been hiding. Yes training has changed, just technic though.
There's no substitute for a bit of hard work, it has always worked and will always work too.

Don't worry about being 43, we have several club members in that age bracket who have just recently cleaned up at our Queensland Track Masters State Championships.

One of the same guys was the oldest man to stand on the dais to receive a Gold Medal in "Elite Mens Competition" giving away some 20 years to most of his competitors, at age 41.

There are plenty of books out there to give training advice, the present requirement is a heart rate monitor, it's a bit more scientific and can give a better reading as far as fitnes is concerned.

Read "Lance Armstrongs" latest book, gives some good hints on training, soon you'll be out there kicking A*#*&>

Keep the wheels turning mate and have fun doing it too?TBC

I live in San Diego, California. I live about 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean and I would classify myself as a fast-recreational rider. I ride a Trek 5500 carbon fiber; dura-ace 9 spd. I love to ride and enjoy climbing the hills. My wife and I have six kids and she has time to join me on a ride at least once a week. Our favorite ride is up the coast hugging the shoreline. It's gorgeous.

All the best.

Hi, I’m Phil from Tacoma Washington. I am 62 years young and bicycle commute daily 10.4 miles round trip. I retired from the Army in 1982 and am now working as a systems programmer here in Tacoma.

I ride a three year old Cannondale T2000 with 12,000 miles on it. I have a Specialized FSR Induro Comp mountain bike and a Specialized Crossroads as a backup commuter. When the weather is really bad I ride the mountain bike as it has disk brakes that stop in the rain. As I said I commute daily for an annual average of 2,200+ miles and I also ride club rides for another 2,400 miles annually. My goal for 2005 is 5,000+ miles.

I am diabetic but have been off meds since I changed my diet and restarted cycling in 1999. I ride as many rides as I can easily get to her in the Pacific Northwest.

Hey everybody. Just purchased a used bike on ebay and contemplating on what to do next. Kind of chilly in chicago to go riding so i guess i'll just look at it for now. I am a broken down runner and had to find something easier on the knees and joints.

G'day CannondaleGirl, Good to hear another girlie has found the thrill and exhileration that can be derived from cycling. Here in Australia we have a big interest with womens cycling, as you may know by the Olympic results, the World Cup and World Championships we have done very well. I remember not that long ago the only women that attended cycling events were the wives or girl friends of men cyclist.

The tailwinds are the best when you're riding home after a hard road session, gives tired legs a bit of a rest. Drafting is good also if you get a cooperative truckie or tracktor driver. Down hill is also good stuff too, but you'll have to get your speedo recalibrated if you only clocked 42mph, only kidding. :D

As for the "Lion King" yes he's something else too, not that I'm into "Yummy" at describing him, But to see him in a sprint, he was really sensational, however we will not see much of him from now on as he's given it all away, well that's the latest I read. :(

I see by the weather report every night that you people have very similar temperatures to us here in Queensland. We have just experienced 33C for the last couple of days but a cooler change will come through by Friday we're told by the met men, down to 28C, well that what they say?

Keep the wheels turning girl have fun doing it too. ;) TBC

G'day ramodink, broken down runners make good bike riders, at the Barcellona Olympics "Cathy Watt" won a Gold Medal in the road race event. She too was a runner who was advised by her physio to get into cycling, mainly to rehabilitate her knees after a lot of injury. So there you go, on a bike you can still run, but you do it sitting down, now that's smart thinking, Bro'.

Clean the bike till it shines, I mean, really get it to a stage where it glows in the dark, that's a winter job anyway, then keep the bike in your bedroom so you can get inspiration every time you open your eyes in the morning, soon the cold will not be a problem and you'll just have to get out there and do it.

Once your out on the road you'll forget every thing else and become as mad as the rest of us, because you don't have to be mad to ride a bike in freezing cold weather but it sure as hell helps.

Keep up the good work and keep the wheels in motion? TBC

well.....i have to confess...thats kinda how it started...lol...after i broke my collarbone (bike accident of course) when i was 14, i haven't been one once since. met my hubby, and he started the wheels turning with my first offical road bike, a fugi finest. next i signed up for an AIDSRide (raleigh, nc to wash dc) and decided i needed a better ride. got myself a cannondale r600. been riding that for a couple of years when our bike team/club rec'd an offer from cannondale for a custom paint job on one of their frames...

so now, even though i don't race, my new baby is my cannondale optimo w/ custom team logo (www.ncvc.net (http://www.ncvc.net/)) . and she is one sweet ride.....i love flying past the hybrids on a downhill! :)

and anytime you guys want to talk bout the giro, cobblestones, or dopping laws drop me a line! lol

hi I'm Polly, made in the USA, had the opportunity to start racing in Colorado Springs where I became a trackie which to me is the coolest thing in the world! It is the best track, hard and steep. Unfortunately I don't live there anymore, but I am grateful for the weekend road rides which were tough on me as a skinny girl starting out but the toughness taught me how to really ride. Most weekends there are national team members donning stars and stripes, T-mobile girls, and tough as nails locals, how intimidating it was. You learn a lot when they're in the pack, like how to fake not gasping for air while you're eyes are popping from your head and acting like "its easy for me too!" : )

now after battling a weird adrenal gland disorder, really! I'm trying to get back to form but it is more difficult than I ever thought, after this babble I just wanted to introduce myself Hi, Im polly nice to meet you all, good luck to you all out there!

Hi, Gang.
I am a little ashamed of myself for making such a post, but, it is who I am, and what my experience has been.
I am NOT a cycler, except in the gym.
The reason I got on this forum was in searching Google for information on a medication the doctors in Europe gave me. A thread/series of posts came up discussing Traumeel injections. They were asking if anyone knew anything about it, and I just wanted to share my experiences and the benefits it gave me.
When I had registered and gone back to the page, I couldn't figure out how to post a reply there in the thread.
I have a number of chronic and debilitating illnesses, from which I have often for years had a great deal of trouble with pain, inflammation, etc.
One of the treatments I received during the year I lived in Europe was injections of Traumeel and Zeel from the German homeopathic firm Heel. They also have tablets, but for serious problems, I found the injection made a huge difference. I believe these medications might help many of you out. If I don't get to post this where the people asking about it get it directly, my apologies.
I have also had very BAD experiences, myself and family and friends, with pharmaceutical steroids, which resulted in great harm to mental instability to generalized debility/disability to death (in 2 cases). Please, avoid using those steroids.
Take good care of yourselves.

From the Rocky Mountain State in the U.S. I'm looking for info about putting 7703 Dura Ace triple chainrings 53-39-30T on my 6503 Ultegra triple crank that had 52-42-30T to get the gear ratio that I want. I have not heard a concensus if this is even possible. What is the straight scoop on this?
