Wow it must be hard to ride with that big chip on your shoulder? What's worse? the weight or the wind resistance?

I agree that Montreal is a rude city...but would venture that the vast, vast majority of the police in any western city are honest, hard working, dedicated professionals who often do a brutally hard job, trying to keep our cities safe and aren't appreciated by under-educated, under-informed, ignorant citizens like yourself.

I agree with Brunswick_kate you're full of *!*#

They just hide behind their badge and therefore the law. Have dealt with more dishonest pigs then honest. Have seen too many cops break too many laws. Wake up from your dream world where everything is perfect and everyone is polite. Try living in the rudest city in Canada and you'll have a different opinion. Full of crap, no full of the stinking real truth......

Why, caue once again I call it as I see it. What dream world do you live in? How many police do you deal or have dealt with? Just follow a single cop for an entire day. Then you shall see first hand how many laws they break. They are ppl just like us and have the same temptations. Except they get to hide behind the law. Last year a huge media story was about a Newmarket OPP who killed and hide a womens body in his house. He was found guilty. Was he following the law and an honest cop? What about those cops who beat King in LA. Were they honest true cops? Couple more here in Toronto, found guilty of selling drugs to kids. What about them? Another off duty cop found guilty of DWI, and killing a mother and her 3 year old. Was he someone to look up to? I have newspaper clippings of over 100 dishonest cops in Canada alone over the past several years. Could go on and on with more prove. This is the real world, not some fantasy where cops are good. They are just as evil if not more then the average person.

As I said, am full of the cold hard truth.....

Hi, i live in the "rudest city in Canada" - a.k.a. Toronto - too and have to totally disagree with you, Memph. Maybe it's because you live in the 'burbs while i live downtown, but i find that you make the experience your own. Sure, people are aloof but in general, very nice, here in T.O.

As for the cop debate: My Dad is a cop; not in Toronto but in a small town and i can tell you that (a) cops go through a lot of physical training every year and (b) like every other civilian, they might break the law too. They are not excempt from faults.

Even though my Dad works in a small town, he deals with lots of horrible ****. From domestic abuse to drunk driving to pulling dead kids who have drowned from the local river. It sucks and someone has to do it and i don't consider it a waste of my taxes.

i see lots of in shape cops cycling around on Acquila bikes and they seem pretty fit to me.

As for some cops disposition - yes, some are corrupt/lazy/power-tripping but you have to wonder what made them that way...

What made them this way? How about the fact that they could get away with it? Never said it was a waste of taxes to have policing. Just police to sit at home once found guilty of a crime on "suspended with pay". A cop is human, but should lead by example and never ever break any law. Or what is the point of laws and ppl to enforce them. Cops deserve double the time for the crime they commit. Great example. I feel I put myself into more danger riding these busy roads then the average cop does at work (over half work out of small towns). We put ourselves in danger with drunk drivers more then police. How many ppl die due to drunks over cops? The average cop on bikes appear in shape. We shall all have different opinions toward the ppl who try to control us. Problem is, most humans when given the power to have a god-like ability, shall abuse it.......

i am from Ohio, USA. used to race, but now just enjoy riding and touring.

When I'm not cycling (99.99% of the time! :)) I'm on the computer because that's my job/main hobby (mainly web programming).

[Hi
I'm from Canberra Aus. I have just started back riding after a few years off. Been some work-outs on a set of Rollers and K's on the road. Have signed up for the Masters Games in November here in Canberra so I need to get the k's in my legs. As for work I'm at ScreenSound the National Screen and Sound Archive in the preservation branch.

I'm originally from Texas, but now I live outside of Paris, France, and that is the place I now call home.

Looks like a fun forum. Trying to make my way through the posts, and that's no short order.

New to cycling. I quit smoking a couple of months ago, then bought a bike a week ago (my 35th birthday present to myself) -- and I've been riding everyday since and can't get enough of it. Slowly building up stamina before I try anything too adventurous. I don't know how I did without a bike before. Definitely beats smoking!

Wish me luck!

Where are you from, what do you do?
I'm from Palm City Florida (originally Pgh PA, then Miami Fl for 16 years) and just got into cycling.

The assistant manager of our store (Walgreens where I am a pharmacist) talked about how he used to ride and now we ride 30 miles 3 times a week.

Looking to buy a better bike. I am now riding a VERY OLD and HEAVY Raleigh.

Hi. I'm from the Boston area. I finally gave in last spring and bought a bike so I could ride with my husband (who rides both on and off the road). I stick to the road right now, but am interested in branching out. I sit at a computer all day, but get to commute 2x a week, which I love. I am fortunate that my company has a gym and showers. Wish I could do it everyday but someone has to take care of the kids! I get in about 50 miles commuting, and hubby and I try to get out about once a week for a 30-50 miler. I am trying to find some women to ride with now.
My dad is a roadie, so I grew up with bikes, but when I moved out here 15 years ago my bike was stolen, and I never really replaced it (I have a city bike to tow the kids around, but nothing fast). After I got over the sticker shock (over a pretty basic bike I have to admit), I decided that the kids don't need any new clothes, toys or extracurricular activities and gave in to the bug. I'm trying to figure out how much I save by commuting.

My bike completes me :)

Great to see females on bikes. Commuting gives you something to look forward to after work. Also, do you notice that you are perkier then your fellow employees early in the morning?

You know if you ride hard and train well. By this spring you could be racing with the female pros. Wish it was this easy for the males...

Good luck and hope the traffic stays away from ya.....

I'm from Hamilton, Canada. My main focus for racing is the sprint events on the track but most of my training is done on the road and in the gym. We have no track in my province and I have to drive 4 hours to Detroit USA if I want to ride one. I just recently graduated from university and work as a cardioac technologist. This is Me :D

Hello, just replied to a post of yours in another section. If we would have gotten the summer olympics years ago, we would have a track now. Then again Canada treats their athletes horrible unless you play baseball or hockey.......

I have been riding for exactly.......one week! And I am hooked.

I live in Middle Tennessee.......hill country! So, I am getting lots of practice climbing already! I have recently gone thru some rough emotional times (get ready for some self endulging therapy now!) recently. I have lost 40#, started working out, running and walking....just getting physically fit in general. I own my own business that I am a sales rep for........and met the most amazing guy who got me hooked on cycling about 4 months ago. He tried to get me to start riding then, but I didn't think I could do it. After a bad "split", so to speak, I decided to get on a bike and see if I would like it. I was hooked immediately!

I have decided to enter the road racing world........just so I can beat that almost-48-year-old's butt in a race! haha! No, really... I love riding, and have an advantage over most new riders in that I was already working out and getting strong. So, I have started out averaging 14 mph on 15 miles at a time. I hear that's not too shabby! After I get about 250 miles under my legs, I will start riding with the team I have joined in TN. The bike shop owner has a team of about 45 racers and wants me to train with them and race with them next Spring.

I love riding........makes me feel close to someone I care very deeply about! Makes me feel free. And I LOVE TO COMPETE! I will turn women's racing on its ear in TN next year!!!!!! haha!

Well, wish me luck with it. I love reading the stories on this forum! You guys are inspirational!

sad, but true. Too bad I was "too small" to play hockey. could only go as far as junior a. But I'm a much better cyclist than hockey player I think.

So do you do any of the Midweek rides at the Hershey center?

Great to see you on a bike. Is an awesome form of exercise. Good luck to you racing next spring. Am sure you shall excel as female cycling is easier then male. Less riders to compete again. But if you train with males, shall make beating the other females that much easier.......

Hi, I'm from Pretoria in South Africa. I cycle for the fun (refer to myself as a profesional fun rider). I'm a consultant to the SA mining industry regarding black economic empowerment/preferential procurement.
I want to train every morning, but have time constraints. I usualy get on the bike over weekends, and then I tend to to 3-4 hours long slow distance.
