Hey girls!
I am pretty new to cycling (road), and I'm just starting to train for my first big event - the BP MS 150 (charity ride from Houston to Austin) in April. Can anyone out there reccommend any websites/books that would have a good training/nutrition program laid out? I'm already fit - have been a regular exerciser for over a year now - but I'm a little clueless on what my regimen should be for the bike specifically.... And when you guys are training for an event, about how many calories a day do you eat? I know it must be more than normal - just curious.... Thanks! :p

Sorry not a girl, but I can recommend a great nutrition book. "Food for Fitness" by Chris Carmichael(Lance's coach). A most read for any athlete to help them better understand nutrition. It devotes an entire section to women's specifc needs and entire diet plans based on sex and weight.

Hey girls!
The Chris Carmichael book is definitely a good one.

I have 2 additional books that I really like. Both are sports nutrition books as opposed to being focused on cycling, but both are excellent.

The books are:

Eat Smart Play Hard, by Liz Applegate. The author is on the faculty of the Nutrition Department at the University of California, Davis - more info on her at http://www.lizapplegate.com/about.html

Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook, by Nancy Clark. She is a sports nutritionist - more info on her at http://www.nancyclarkrd.com/.
