When you're riding towards Lach Dennis from Lower Peover the first sign you pass reads "Plumley Golf Course".
The next sign after about 50mtrs says "Plumley - Please drive carefully through the village"

Ah well done Jan you made it back from the Crusades after all; we'd nearly given up on you there - welcome to the peloton:p you must of course be wary of some of the people on here wouldn't stop at anything: boiling oil, battering rams, catapults, trojan horses or even worse: tin tacks:eek: but don't forget most of them have weak spot that is a craving for carbon, just tempt 'em with that and they'll go belly up!!!!

Good to be here Jacques, will have to sit in the wheels for a bit. No miles for 6 weeks (trying the new resting strategy). should be flying by all accounts, but it hasn't worked for me.

Believe, the resting strategy works. You are flying! Just don't spoil it by going out on your bike to test how well you're going. Top it up by going to a show or a soccer match and doing a spot of "le sac claire" training in the interval. You'll be untouchable come the Spring.
Spring??? Got so fed up with the turbo, went out in the rain twice this week. Not to bad on Wednesday as it was 10 degrees C, today was a bit fresh though, got cut up by a very old lady in a car. When I'd finished screaming she asked what she'd done wrong! Very politely I suggested that perhaps she just hadn't seen me and maybe she should look very carefully before pulling out at a junction.
She said she certainly would and we parted good friends, even though I was cold and piss wet through and she was warm and dry.
I don't know if we'll be able to take on the Welsh on Sunday Jan. The forecast is for a big snowfall on Saturday night so we might not even get to Queensferry. Not sledging again!! I'll bet you've never stopped at the castle.

Great weekend cycling to everyone.

Quite enjoyed it really, until I had to get a Titanium forearm. I packed it in then, as I couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo after that.

This is a message for the people who knew him on here. I've just been chatting to Ben the Bastard, and he tells me that the good egg, and good rider Brian Lowe dropped dead at work the other week. Brian was probably about 12/13 years younger than me, so that makes it worse. Ben couldn't go to the funeral as he was in Madrid. I know it was well attended, Len was there among many others. Sad news indeed.
Charlie is with and without Raie any more, even though he still lives there, this is because he paid some of the mortgage capital when he won £25,000 on the horses. At present he spends most of his day in the bookies, trying to pull off the same coup again.
I still love him to bits.

Well nobody's posting so I'll report in to start to get the ball rolling again.
I was sorry to hear about Brian Lowe.
Just had my most prolific week since I started again: 76 km on Tuesday (sunny at last), 80 km on Thursday (shorts :) first time this year), 30 km on Saturday (vent d'autan  extremely stong BRF and Fred know what it's like, first 15 km took me 58 minutes) and 80 km on Sunday with the club (total climbing 1200 m, 3h 50m on the bike) beautiful exciting scenery:p.
So there we go. I hope you all have a good week.
How did your race go BRF? Come on tell us about it!!!

Well nobody's posting so I'll report in to start to get the ball rolling again...I know it'll give Fred palpitations to have me stick my antipodean honker in again, but good onya, Jacques. I just sent my bike on a multiple month sojourn back to Aussie and I'm going to miss the chance to mix it with the powered velocipedes of Malaysia for a while.
Anyway, before Fred hits a spectrum that is beyond the visual range of homo-sapiens, enjoy your times spinning the cranks, Jacques.
Regards,
Eoin

Yes, the news about Brian was very sad. Brings you up short, he was younger than even me! I remember him turning up at Dave Riley's "Tour of the Peak" Wednesday night training runs in the late 60's / early 70's. He had a fairly standard bike, windmilled a huge gear, had n't yet raced and we couldn't drop him! We went on to race together on many occasions. A good rider team mate and bloke.

Hi Jaques, I thought you'd gone away for some kind of birthday celebration when it was so quiet. Should have guessed you'd be rediscovering old kilometres. It's been more of the welding weather over here. Don't mention shorts, haven't even bothered to shave the legs yet!
Couldn't get to last weekends event in Anglesey - snow across all 3 lanes of the M56 near Chester- more f'ing turbo:mad: Bit better this weekend, rode a 50 mile BC event, usually a bit out of my league but finished strongly, just edged out by the front row of the sprint beiing from gutter to gutter. Must re read the manual on tactics. The miles feel to be paying off so who knows what may happen. If only the temperature would go above 6 degrees.
Borneo, now there's an idea!

Well thanks very much for the input Eoin. What's it like riding in Malaysia? must be crazy hot  at times. As Fred knows I spent some time in Martinique when I'd "officially" retired from racing but got dragged into a few races, even won one, though I didn't do it on purpose, and it was hot enough there.
But more seriously (something I've always wanted to know) when you get the whirling pits  i.e. when you've drunk to much and it starts to spin (sorry about the explanation but maybe your origins are different than mine) does it go round clockwise unlike in the northern hemishere? I know the water goes down the plughole t'other way round I've tested that. Thanks for any help and btw why does your bike have to go to Australia  its not sort of next door is it?

Just remember this: if you want to win a race sometime at some point you have to be in the lead perferably before the line so get to the front and stay there. Simple as that!!!!:D
I hope you get some warmer weather before you run out of brazing flux:p
See you

There used to be a sign in Glossop near the bottom of the Snake which read "Don't throw stones at this notice" I saw a similar one on the Broads a couple of years ago when we wus down that way boating:rolleyes:.

Sad day on Monday. Saw another old mate up the chimney.

He was John Pilbeam, another one of those people without whom club cycling can’t function. John was a stalwart of the Bognor Regis C.C., someone who put far more back into the sport than he’d ever taken out as a competitor.

My favourite memories are of timekeeping stints with John and Trish (Mrs. P) on Bognor events – both club and open, John and Trish on the watches, me on the radio. Lots of laughter, with occasional breaks to time riders in.

I shall miss him, and so will the Bognor club, who will have to elect a new chairman.

We've had some bother with Oz wankers in the past, so we have to be a bit careful, even though BRF and myself can pull of their legs and wings off 'em. Posters Over the Hill and 2006 can emulsify them as well.
I sort of like you now, as the Wild Man of Borneo.
Ignore that Phil Hudson, he just bunked off. What he doesn't realise is that a few of the principals on this site have about 2,500 victories to their name, and he's too fuckin' late. He never did a thing we asked him to do.
He's a wanker.

Sorry to hear about the demise of a lifelong friend and contributor to the cycling fraternity in John Pilbeam, it is people like yourselves, and indeed Stuart Benstead who work on the infrastructure of both club and promotional activities (Archer GP), and have done so for most of their lives.
As we have said before elitism is not a word we are associated with, but other peoples help encouraged us to further glories, even if they were not capable of it themselves.

Well done BRF. Nowt wrong wi' that lad, a good result indeed. The old Spanish pros might need a bit of weighing up. Mind you the Terror of Toulouse will be looking forward to it, and tell 'em who he did really ride for. Only if he wins of course.
