[QUOTE=Jacques Dupont]Well then I'm afraid I have to report a total failure as I DNS:mad:
Almost a bit too much info in that post Jaques! but I hope you're starting to feel better by now. 120k was always a bit much for the time of year. Save your power and stamina for the "big soup" sportive at the end of June when the Wood'n Bridge Team will be seen inaction for the first time this season. I believe there will be a guest appearance from Jan Duleau aka Peveril of the Peak!
I'm pleased to have got plenty of miles in so far, went down with a bit of a cold last week and took four days off while it actually rained. I think I told you we are so short of water that the Government is introducing a retrospective hosepipe ban. Well it's official now and it started last July!
Just like Lim's weather in Ireland it's bollock biting bitter here, Went out this lunchtime and cut it short to avoid unnecessary welding. Can't afford the extra weight before the first 10 this Saturday and RR a week on Sunday. I'm glad the seasons about to start as motivation for training in this Arctic climate is beginning to wear a bit thin.
Remember, while you're resting you're getting fitter and faster. Oh, nearly forgot, went to the Little Britain show at the Apollo the other Friday. Fortunately I'd taken a clear plastic bag just in case! You're ahead of me already, you've got it. Interval Training!
Watched the two Belgian races this weekend on cycling.tv. Great picture quality. Does everyone else know about these web tv broadcasts?
Have a good week and some enjoyable riding.:)
Wood'n Bridge oh I see but doesn't the Bridgewood team sound more professional for as you know when the goin' gets wierd....
As for Jan Duleau that's way offside Peveril of the Peak (or of the peek?) will do or if you want something French "Yan du Chateau" is much nobler.
How's this eminent Musketeer getting on? Is he training? Why isn't he on here posting? What sort of teamwork is this?
Best of luck for the upcoming events keep smiling:)

Sorry to hear about your gastroenteritis. Did you try the old French solution?
Boil rice with carrots and a pinch or two of salt. Drain it off, and drink the water, it seems to work because the water now has carbo's, and the carrots help you find the bog during the night. Joking apart it helps keep you hydrated.
Montpelier, my old ground 'til it got to 40 degrees, then it was crucifying. I don't think BRF likes it much round there these days. A man of your calibre should have no probs. Mais on verra.
Yeh I did believe you'd done some huntin' down that side of the woods.
No the heat don't bother me too much although 40 getting a bit high, remember I did a "stage" in Martinique already in training for global warming. I suppose we could all come back to England; must be plenty of room eveybody seems to be leaving, unless of course the Gulf Stream shuts down and brings back an ice age which brings us back to the fixed wheel bike skiing trick;we could teach young Jean how to do it:eek:!!!

I understand RR, but pray do tell, what on earth is a 10? Is it one of those dreaded Americanisms.
I must be flying now with the years of rest that I've suffered, so I'll rest a bit more then I'll be good and ready for the TDF.
I didn't see the races as they weren't on ES, apparently they were on Deutches Rundfunk or summat. Couldn't find the webcasts neither. I was a lot pissed off as you can imagine.
Well good luck with your preparation, and don't forget to stuff plenty of fivers up your bar ends for the pub when you pack.
I wonder when BRF is coming back with some good tales to tell?

Hi,
Anyone up for a trackday at Newport on march 12th?
Phil
Managed to get a few miles in during the weekend.
I was down with the inlaws for the weekend - they live in what can only be described as pan flat location.
"Great" I thought - relatively easy miles.
Bloody hell - the breeze down there is pretty strong - and given that the temperature was only 2 or 3 degrees Celsius made it not a very pleasant experience either.
This time of the year is hard to stay motivated - going out with 3 layers of clothing isn't ideal.
But you've gotta get out haven't ya?
Looking forward to the day when I don't have to wear leggings.
At this rate that might be next May!
Must agree there Lim, that North/NE wind is a bummer. We got away with that snow mallarkey but it was fleeing in that wind. Not long to suffer now, the weather usually reasonable for the Cheltenham Festival.
Will you be aiming for the same mileage as last year?
Let's face it, you were up on a par with BRF which was excellent as you work and he just slobs about all day finding lumps of carbon on e-bay.

Yep, the john thomas is practically ingrowing, 'cause it's so cold!
Fred - there's no way I could hit the same mileage this year.
Last year was in part for myself - but also to help raise funds for charity.
Cheltenhams on the way - but I can't offer anything on that particular subject.
But the wife on the other hand - she follows the G'G's and she's a bit of a shark.
I might be over in your neck of the woods in Easter - well actually more westerly direction from where you're based.
Been invited to a wedding in the lovely Burton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds.
Looking forward to it too.
Have driven through the Cotswolds but have never stopped off there : so I'm looking forward to it.
I'm told that a spin through Chipping Norton is a must - very scenic, nice tea rooms.
Don't know how the locals will take to a Paddy in their midst, but I'll do mi best to have a wash before I go there!
Am enjoying the banter between JD, Dupont and yourself.

An economy size bottle of Ellimans Rub to the first person to complete the following and return to me on an RTT entry form. Don't forget to complete both sides if you're 16 or under.
A medium tube of Musclor(Summer) to all other correct entrants.

Come on Fred, I know you can do it, think imperial!

Ellimans? Is that the stuff you drink to stop you getting a cold?
Top tip. Put your shorts on then do your legs, otherwise pulling your shorts up afterwards can result in a painful willy and scrotum. Mind you some riders like to play with themselves all day long.
I'm not allowed by law to handle 16 year olds as I haven't had a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Which reminds me. Have you seen Charlie lately?

Maybe the Gulf Stream has really stopped. Has anybody checked recently?
Who's job is it anyway? Maybe you'll have to wear your log johns and leggings forever:eek:!!!

Gulf Stream's OK by all accounts. The bloke who swims up and down it everyday said so.
Anyway Jaques, last year when your bike was just an idle collection of bits, BRF was out and about while you were dreaming of past glories with your 51 in hand.
The old timers down your end said they couldn't remember a winter that hung about so long. BRF said the Canigou held its snowline for ages. You should be OK, you coped with the Mistral, and now you've got that winter Tremantana thing. No probs. for a man of durabilitie like you.

Bang on, it's the nearest thing to a metric distance we've got and so popular that the only event locally is run by the VTTA. Still, it's a nice way to spend a Wednesday evening in June.
Yours was the closest anyone came to a correct answer but doesn't qualify for the prize, which is just as well as it's still so cold I'm going to need all the embrocation I've got tomorrow, might have to drink some for an inner glow. Not even bothered doing mi legs yet. They'll be well covered!
It was minus seven here last night so what it's like for Mountain Pro I can't begin to imagine. Extra porridge needed. Only had one ride so far on mi carbon fibre job, hope it hasn't gone brittle in the cold.
Are your innards mended Jaques?
No word yet from Bill Peveril, I bet he's still MTBing up Cave Dale and down Winnats. That's how he achieved his peak form last year. No news of Charlie either Fred, but I guess tht's good news!
Bon Route!

Well I could have put the Ellimans Rub to good avail pity I didn't have a RTTC entry form:o.
I do believe that BRF is back and that "Arthur Peveril" is in the Algarve possibly doing well I don't really know...working on "la table ronde??"
I'll be out for a ride on Saturday to test mi legs and innards. Snow is again forecast for Sunday I think FRED should send his swimmer out again for another verification. What's the news from our Irish and Scottish correspondents on this alarming subject? Even BRF may have to buy some carbon studded tyres on ebay:eek:

I'm just back home - I had to attend the religious service (removal) of the remains of Mick Christle in Dublin this afternoon.
Mick died earlier this week.
Mick Christle was brother of the legendary Joe Christle - Joe was the man who developed and organised the Ras Tailteann or the FBD Mile Ras as it's now known as.
Mick was a stage winner in the Ras in 1953 and one tough cyclist.
All three Christle Brothers rode the Ras (Joe, Colm and Mick).
Mick used to help train us when I was youngster.
He was a tough man - a man of the Ras as we say in these parts.
He'd flog us hard - but it was the only way.
Like his brother Joe, Mick believed in 1000% dedication.
He was before his time.
I well remember Mick managing a team in the Ras - everyone was afraid of the Eastern block riders in the 1980's.
His advise "Got out there, and make it hard for them - and when they come back at you, go again. If they come back for more, go again - make the cunts pay".
Good on ya, Mick.
Many current and ex cyclists were in attendance today for Mick's removal.
I caught up with a lot of pals - people I hadn't seen for years.
The McQuaids, Dermot Dignam, some of the Roche family, Shay O'Hanlon, were all there today.
Many older vets travelled from far and wide - I spotted Gene Mangan of Kerry another superb Ras man.
Many great names of cycling coming to pay their respects to Mick and the Christle family.
Great turnout.
It's snowing tonight - and it's freezing. Minus 7 according to the forecast.
I've cleaned my bike and I intend to go out tomorrow morning on my bike.
I am going to break myself tomorrow - cause that's what Mick would expect me to do.
May he rest in peace - Buiochas le Dhia, a chairde. Go n'eiri an bothar leat,
a Micheál.
