XES thread has 16,474 hits (as of today).
Given that there are only a few of us who bother to reply to post views here
(and are accountable for those views), the vast majority of 16,474 hits are from people who check what is being written here.
I would wager that a lot of 16,474 hits are from people who post to the ES board.
I would further wager that a lot of people who use the ES board, and who know about this thread, chose not to post here because of the accountability which is sadly lacking over there.
Which makes me wonder - there must have been a lot of people posting rubbish
over there on the ES board.
Just a thought.
hi there,,hey thats good.. i see that the ES / MB has just gone away.. i wonder if there is a very big issue going on within ES,, it needs one, but with all those idiots who get on its better without one,,, we just keep this one going.. its the only one i bother with.. did ask old hetchins to have a look last year, but nothing,, i wonder how he is going on .. was he a bit poorly last year ???? may be over in eire at theback end of the year may see you on the road getting em in. bon courage.

Weather here has changed (again !).
Four seasons in a day - rain, sun, wind : changing every couple of minutes.
I went out yesterday with the youngsters - we did 40 miles and was destroyed in three rain "powershower" showers over the two hour session.
Forecast is good though for the weekend.
Mileage total is now at 783 for the month.
Good Friday will be another 5 hour spin (day off work) and we have a public holiday on Monday - so the 1,000 miles will be easily passed for this month.

Just a thought.Exactly the same thought has passed my mind several times, and I agree with you entirely. What ! you and me on the same board. Now can't you ask POC and Hetch to sign on with us, we could do with a bit more input, even though between us all I think we've done just fine this winter. I think that because that they realise they can't make it a duck shoot here, they are awaiting an opening on the new ES board, which they probably won't get. I am sure that they haven't a clue as to what's been going on behind their backs, in fact I know they haven't.

I've just wrote a long piece explaining things to you which has been lost in the ether (another sniff). So you'll have to read up. We don't do 928 here unless it's a new sort of bike tubing.

Marvellous stuff Lim, as a matter of interest how many miles had you in the bag at this time last year, and that was in your Etape year. What about you BRF? are you up or down?

Haven't you read the e-mails I sent to you re ESMB? Tell me, are you just riding anything at the moment before the vets season starts proper, or what. I can't work it out. HEHE. Well at least you will know where the finish is. Plenty of time now that you've got a fast haircut as well, remember what happened to Samson.
I was chatting with someone a couple of nights ago about the Peter Hill, Peter Head thing that I got confused about in Brittany/Normandy. You said that he was never heard of after that, Head that is. At the time there was a BCF ruling that anyone who had ridden in France with an Hors Cat was deemed to be a Pro on return to GB, of course many riders who had tried abroad ended up packing it in altogether as there were no races, and no money as well on our domestic scene.
According to this person Head moved back to live in Belgium for some years. Obviously Hill made his life in the region, what he does now, I don't know.

I asked Hetchins to register here and he did register here last August.
He told me recently that he thought that the board was too general.
I told him that we'd created our own XES thread with you and BRF and Hemplands, but he hasn't posted for some reason.
That's about all I can do, I'm afraid.

At this time last year - I had the massive total of 65 miles done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually only started working for the Etape from March 17th 2004.
I did 45 miles on 17th of March and 25 miles on the 19th March 2004.
(I'd say i had some more miles in the legs but I didn't recrod them between
1st Jan and 17th March 2004).
So I am definitely up on last years totals.
Question for you.
Sid Barras.
Are you acquainted with SB ?
I was reading an article about Kelly cycling in a race in the Midlands in the UK
last year and he was saying that SB was flying.
I know of his name - maybe you might be able to give me some information and your opinion of him as a rider ?

Yes I know Sid, the dirty old git, he was always trying his fame on with my Sylvia, of course I was used to let them have a go while she respectfully put them all down. Hello Sid, she was taller than you anyway.
Sid was a bloody good rider, and a good finisher. Surely he rode against Pat McQuaid many times.
Well, if he thinks that SB was flying, I'm not so sure about that one for sure.
I have a lot of respect for Sid as a rider, but I have a lot more respect for some others of his era as people from the same BRF county. Perhaps he might throw his hat in the ring on this one.

At least riding on St Paddys day requires a degree of lunacy, or was it just to start a thirst?

Give them better details. I understand the fog of the other bullshit, that's how we've managed to succeed against all the odds. That was how I came to think of this area as workable and you stuck it up, so well done Lim.

Someone, and I can't remember who it was, said Hetchins had overwintered in America. I've an idea that it could have been Sooty.

If you want to find out more about Sid Barras, google him in. That race when SK beat him in the sprint, I was amazed to see that one of my old boozing pals from Merseyside got 5th. Yes, it was the amazing Ernie Lightfoot.

youre just jealous becuase its pissing where you are...
which reminds me of an old joke...
a woman phones up a catalogue company and asks 'do you do incontenance pants by mail order?'
the gentleman replies 'of course madam, where are you ringing from?'
the woman, 'the waist down'.

Hello.
Just a quick update re my 5 hour spin last week, and today's 5 hour spin.
Last week, in superb conditions, I managed to cover 96 miles (average 19.2mph) in exactly 5 hours.
Today on a different route, with a stronger breeze, I managed to only cover
82 miles (average 16.4mph).
Todays route involved a lot more climbing than last week.
I was climbing for approx 22 miles today - at anything between 1:7 to 1:16
(depending on which part of the course, I was on at the time).
Even still, that is some difference is performance.
That's a drop of 2.8mph on average, which is a big difference.
I enjoyed todays circuit as it was a lot more "real" in terms of weather conditions and terrain.
I didn't think I could match last weeks performance and today proved it.
Still though I am happy to have held 16.4mph for 5 hours.

Marvellous stuff, don't be bothering about the speed when you are increasing power and aerobics. 3mph is nothing at all, you just battle on, and without knowing it you push your own limits of endurance. It's a progression. When I was a younger old git I did pretty much the same thing, left the house and climbed for 7 miles dropped into the valley bottom then climbed for another 4 miles, descended for 3miles and back home. It nearly killed me at first, then it was a doddle so I started to bang a few a more climbs in. I think BRF still uses the same system. It's a method. What's the bloody point of going fast, anyone can do that, it's about long, hard and fast. BRF is (was) a great all rounder at all disciplines. Some of the stupid stunts I did after that were beyond belief even as I sit here, but pull them off I did. No wonder I'm in such a bad physical condition. BTW Tell Peter C that I agree with him entirely, it's just that cyclists think it's a bed of roses, more fuel for the chimney corner.
We'll have the place on fire in a minute.

Yep, the old up and down stuff tends to put manners on you.
7 miles up, then down, 4 miles up and then another 3 miles up, ain't easy.
I hate climbing - was never any use at it anyhow, but it's just got to be done.
The 5 hour rides by oneself though are strange.
The first 1-2 hours are ok.
The middle 3-4 hour is what gets me.
The mind starts to wander and it's a job trying to keep the concentration.
4-5 hour is ok, cause you're on the way home and naturally, you're more
attuned.
But that middle hour always gets me.
You're in the middle of nowhere (geographically and mentally).
But if that's ones only worry in life - then there is little to be worried about,
eh ?
Peter C - I won't be seeing him until May.
But I will mention what you say here.
He's a funny bloke - he remenisces about the past a lot.
I don't think he'd mind me saying this - but he is very bitter about his time on the continent.
It's obvious he became very disillusioned about his time over there.
Maybe he expected to do better when he went over - and got a rude awakening.
Who knows ?
As you and BRF say, competitive cycling in Belgium/France is a lot tougher than anything back here in the British and Irish Isles.
When you've got burly Belgians chewing the handlebars for hours on end at
23+mph, it can be intimidating.
