I'm for the football and gambling on it, it pays the subscription. It was Lil Phiggatt and Mrs Sherwen on the mikes. Switched the sound off. Hey who gives a shit? it's midsummer down under, Langwanki? They'll have pneumonia by the time the Classics turn up.

Mrs Sherwen - God almighty.
How did that man ever get a career in the media ?
He is a terrible commentator.

I well recall his commentary when Boardman won the Prologue here in Dublin in 1998, he referred to Boardman as "Christopher Boardman" throughout.

"You are watching the former Olympic Gold medal pursuit champion, Christopher Boardman, doing what the others can't do, that's winning Prologue TT".
And "look at the time of Christopher Boardman as he rounds the corner in to O'Connell Street, here in Dublin for the start of the 1998 TDF".

In fairness that day, the people here cheered on Boardman that day.
There weren't as many Union Jacks in O'Connell St, since 1916 !

The prologue finish was outside the GPO in O'Connell Street - where the 1916 Easter Rising and the Irish Republic Declaration was read by Paidraig Pearse.
Kinda ironic that irish people would rally behind Christopher Boardman, especially outside a place with such Republican resonance !

Do you know how Lil Phiggat got into the game? It was when David Saunders of the Telegraph got killed in a car crash. He was like a rat up a drainpipe to ingratiate himself for a report. I've known the Liverpool crew for years as you know, and they think he's a shit. He's not liked at all, a bit like 'The Sun' newspaper blaming the Hillsborugh disaster being blamed on the scousers.
The capital of Eire.

Paul was a good rider, but Lil Phiggat is Billy no mates. I've posted this on before on ES. PL says he was a 1st cat for 14 years ! ! on his palmares.

Is he not liked ?
I always PL was more impartial as a commentator than PS.
Phil used to work in a zoo, didn't he ?
Dave Saunders, I know the name but he's before my time.

PL was a good cyclist in his day, I am reliably told.

I would have thought that PL would have been reasonably popular.
You put a different slant on him - let me think about that one.

I dont think PL and MRs S are that bad,

i watched the TDF 04 coverage last sumemr on ES and it wa bullllllshit. An i mean that in a bad way. Kelly was okay but who the hell was the Yank woman, Lance this and Lance that..it was ridiculous...what a condecending attitude...Mr Kelly should have just slapped the bitch up...

It ended up as a slanging match between who is best Lance or anyone from Europe.

Now, i know bugger all about road racing (as you all know) and i dont pretend that i do so i dont know the careers of these commentators (execpt Kelly) so am just going on what i hear on the TV.

I may get shot down for my views but i couldnt give a phat fcuk :D

G'day, Lord Phil and Prince Paul are looked upon by a lot of Media here in OZ as the creme de la creme, they assume God like status, and are feted by all and sundry for there extensive knowledge of all things cycling. One word from Lord Phil and his lacky's come a running. Believe me the Phil and Paul show has got 'em all bluffed.

I often question what they are up to when I stay up and watch a late night long stage coverage, for me it is early morning, 1 to 2am and whilst watching Marco Pantani busting his clacker up whatever mountain he is actually climbing and hear the dou saying something totally unrelated I'm convinced I'm asleep.

What they say is not what I get beamed into my living room, my theory, the two warriors spend all day in an air condtitioned caravan at the finish line.

They are wined and dined on whatever is going around, they probably get copious amounts of the best caviar, oysters, prawns, the best of every type of french pastries and breads, and then wash it all down with glass after glass of chardoney.

One would be a naive to expect that they give an accurate description of anything let alone cycling, when they are both pie eyed (or three sheets to the wind).

What is needed is for the two of them to be placed upon the pillion of a m/cycle and driven in and around the bunch, just like the camera m/bikes. It would be interesting to hear their comments, (whilst being frightened to death by the experience) on gearing ratio's being used, as the slaves perform their feats of incredible strength, in an attempt to secure the win for their respective teams. Phil would have to have a ready supply of jocks waiting at the finish line, to cover up the accidental evacuation of his fundermental orifice?

What we need is a revolution, and all it would take, is to have a real commentary team, like Phil Anderson's missus joining the dou to keep them awake, can you imagine it, I think I'll write a request? Good stuff, don't you think?

Whilst I was trying to sell, or even give away the services of Christ(sic) Anderson to OLN to join PL and PS, on the other side, it turns out that they can't stand her. It so happens that DD and DH on ES don't like her, SK is non commital, but there is hope, Mike Smith thinks she's marvellous, but the audience don't like MS. Now then Simon Reed likes her and MS and he's in charge of commentators.
I am privvy to a few things, so down there Brian do us all a favour, and feed her to the sharks.
A little note here for MP. That dreaded yankie woman is Christ Anderson.

I have a great respect for Paul, and all he achieved. As for Lil turning pro, I have my doubts. I could phone up my pal Peter Matthews for a chat, we've known each other a long time. In my opinion Paul is stifled by Lil, and Paul may not be a great commentator, but he doesn't get the chance to justify his position as a break-up. You have probably noticed that DH gives more mike time to SK while he reads the MB, and SK has more to contribute than in previous years.
I've tried to pick up CA in an American life but can't find anything about it. Now our new chap Brian and his mates might be able to help us along on this one.
Because we need some new ammo. MCM found the modelling game 'Epictalent' Hoho. I still must do a bit more on David Saunders of the Telegraph. I have posted all this stuff before on ESMB.
I've just been to Kashmir, it's a bit like Iraq, nothing found. Which will be on another board.

G'day MP, mate she just married a famous TDF rider, then like a lot of pushy Yanks, who can'y help themselves, she horned her way into the fold with much "Eyelash" fluttering and plenty of "Gushing" and by being generally obnoxious.

When you're married to a "Famous TDF Star Rider" who's going to piss you off, without giving poor old "Phil Anderson" some grief. He has to live with it and can you imagine copping it in the neck from her, as I said earlier.

Dinner is served Phil, "cold shoulder and a length of tongue to go with it" washed down by "Caustic Comment" the latest and a speciality of the house (whine) ?

Enough said for now, incidentally Lim, if we could only get her to the beach, and actually in the water, there's a bloody good chance the sharks would take one look at her and high tail it outa' there.

The shark conservationist would have something to say about that too , they'd be up in arms, cruelty to wild creatures, there would be a right old "to do", we would have protests going on for the rest of the summer.

Anyway what have the poor old sharks done to deserve that sort of treatment, I personally have a pact with the sharks, I don't play in their back yard and they don't come and swim in my toilet, that's fair?

Can you imagine the TDF with a big protest there, I can see it now, "One Devil and Two Thousand Sharks" prancing all over the mountains, now that would cause a fair bit of disruption, and what have the guys riding the tour done to deserve that?

Enough of this, I'm off to do a nice ride in the sun?

We don't expect Mutant Bikers to know much about the real life Roadmen. We see you as people who live in tents at night with a tin of corned beef dissolved in an oxo cube and a few tatties. Breakfast will be a few wild berries, a handful of oats and some water.
I could say more, and indeed I have done so on many occasions re: the raving beauty, But at this moment in time we must build up our vehement library, and not fire any salvo's until you are given orders to do so. Otherwise all the fun will be negated.
Where's the Pneumatic sauce dispenser? Don't you want to make any money.

hi there U all, a bit of a bad day at the office this week, it went all wrong last sunday, the club bash was a bit over the top, we had these 2 quite hard climbs, the first up a nagging 14 kms climb to taillet from ceret, a bit too tough for an oldie, but as usuall i went with the "no hopers" got about 5 kms up and started to fade a bit, i kept putting a a few digs to stay with them but to no avail, i slowly drifted of the back, i got to the top knackered, we did not hang around, then a drop down back to ceret, and up the bourne michelin, a 5 kms steady climb, too much for me maty after about 3 kms off the back,, so it was eesy peesy to the top, but i was knackered...being a bit on the "old" side sure does have its problems, but must keep going......from monday i was wanked out, but a steady ride withs mrs BRF's touring club on tuesday and thursday and a steady ride today again with mrs brf, all is well, ho, got my 1000kms in on tuesday well 1035 to be correct, so i have a bit in the bank....tomorrow is a flat run, just up my street, time to get my own back, will make the buggers suffer on the flat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! see ya

bon courage. ps bought a pair of shimano dura ace wheels in silver...toooooooooo muuuuuuuchh..

Today - the first century (100 miles) of the new Year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to visit the inlaws in a place called Waterford.
So I pu the Binachi in the back of the car and we drove down to see the brother in law.
This morning, woke up feeling good.
Weather was dreadful - pissing rain and cold, but I said "to hell with it" and got going.

Got on the bike at 9.30am and sped out of Waterford City.
Passed through Carrick on Suir - where I spied a bunch of Carrick Wheelers (Sean Kelly's old club) just up ahead of me.
They were off to Clonmel - which was on my route home.
Managed to do a few turns at the front as well.
Had a good chat with them - Sunday morning normally finds Sean out with them. (I'll remember this for future reference).
Got to Clonmel (50 miles at 12.14pm).
The Carrick boys turned back - so I went on, by myself.

Hit Limerick (100 mile) at 3.15pm.
The bike, my clothes were destroyed, but I was delighted 5hrs 45 mins for
100 miles.
At this stage of the year, dreadful conditions, is good going by my standards.
Considering I was off the bike from 10th September 2004 to 15th December
2004 with a bloody flu virus, isn't bad going.

I have just managed to thaw out - nearly five hours later.
Bloody weather here is terrible.

That's a bloody good ride, you must be as mad as me, just don't end up in the same state. Waterford? Crystal? isn't that where record breaker Eileen Sheridan did things with glass. the company's had its ups and downs over the years. Be jasus, you've just reminded me of a lunatic ride.
