thats no problem, put a black bin liner next to your skin, bang on the usuall winter stuff and you loose 1 stone every 100 miles, ie 3 rides its off, i know it worked for me when i went out to south africa, 3 stone over weight, 3 weeks i was down to my 12 stone racing weight.. i now wieght about 70kilo, which i think is less that 12 stone, fred c will know.. bon courage.
I'm not a proposer, nor supporter, of the black bin liner school of fitness. BRF is cotradicting himself here. As prevoiusly mentioned I cannot remember a rider devoting his victory to a bin liner, or indeed a Turdo. There we are then, it's just miles and miles, and hours and hours a day. Slow burn off.

Be jasus Lim, We are worked hard to get to the top. BRF was making his way, chipping away at some of the hardest bastards in the North on his side of the Pennines, and we were doing the same thing on our side. The only way of getting there was aim for that level, because that was how you measured yourself. You did the same thing in Ireland. There is no hierarchy in cycling, just look at my post about Jim Carson.
Just looking at some of the above from Lim, I actually rode for bets on 200k in the Pennines off no miles, and a few other ridiculous things, always collected against the doubters, which made my reputation more incredible. I don't give a shit anymore, I don't have to, but what a great time, at least I can sit here and be satisfied.
Full respect from this quarter - to both yourself and BRF.
I know youse are two hardy perenials and I don't doubt that youse both worked hard.
it's just when you're at my level - no matter how much hard work I put in,
I always knew that I never had the natural ability - God given talent - to
make the most of all that hard work.
In other words I'd hit a plateau no matter how much training I did.

The bin liner is used by a lot of people I know - genuinely.
Next door neighbour is a marathon runner and he uses them.
I agree with you though - the slow burn off is better than the instant fix.
Three rides to lose 3 stone - I think BRF was just going slightly over the top.

yes ok, the point is that the bin liner does work, i went to live and work in south africa, i also got a contract with the citreon pro team there in port elizabeth.. due to the very complicated business of going to live abroad with a wife and 2 small children i had to STOP riding the bike for about 6 months.. i put on 3 stone, up from around 12st to 15 stone... we moved got settled in and got the pro contract... problem middle of racing season, got the team, had to get fit quick.... to do this i used the magic black bag system,, rode with it on for 3 weeks and lost the 3 stone..... what you have to remember is that all that extra weight is WATER, you do not need it.... get rid of it, i must add that as usuall i trained 5 days a week and raced one, the others trainer 3 times a week, and raced one... miles, i hear someone say..oh by the end of the first year, i won the road champs for eastern province ....bon courage.

I'd say those 6 months must have been torture for you.
I know Mrs BRF likes to cycle as well - I imagine it wasn't a party either for the rest of your family, your not being able to cycle, eh ?

yep but you have to do it.. it did'nt take long to get back to peak fittnes, remember when you are 25 years old, its easy, just put in the effort.... my wife only started riding again thia year after a 4 year lay off,, she has now ridden every week with an average of 160 kms... BUT, this morning when we went out with her club, st genis cycling and touring club, she turned a corner, from being the weakest women ( 5 of them) she has become the strongest, and indeed she was able to drop most of the men on a small colline just before the end of the ride.... maybe its 120 kms with the club and that 40 kms she does with me on sat morning.. we put in a 5 kms climb, not hard about 1in 12, but long and staedy,, its amazing to see how a rider who is not fit, moves up the gearing as they get fitter.. mrs brf start on the granny ring, 28x 24,,,, now 6 months later, its 42x24, thats progress,,,next 52X24 ? who knows.. still at above bus pass age, thats IMPRESSIVE... BON COURAGE.

How do you use the bin liner method?
You buy a bin liner.
Cut holes out of the each side of the bin liner, for your arms.
Cut out a hole in the top, for your head.
Put the binliner on to your body.
Then put your cycling gear on over the binliner and go out and pedal 100 miles.
You'll lose a stone in weight.
How do you use the bin liner method?
Don't even dream of doing daft tricks like that, absolutely unnecessary for you. BRF had already spent years racing , and understood things pertaining to his body, losing water from your body ruins the ionic balance, and overworks the kidneys to try to keep the toxins at bay. I think BRF would have preferred to use the normal method, but he was caught between a rock and a hard place at the time.
On the other hand, I think we should send Redneck a pack of them and recommend that he doesn't make a hole for his head.

Far be it for me to comment on your dearly beloved, I would advise sticking it in 42x16, unless it gets really stiff, well worth trying, what do you think?

I agree - Phil Hudson unless your belly is hitting the cross bar, you are far too young to be have to need to resort to this methodology.
As regards Redneck though ?

Redneck, tell flintstone to get out of bedrock. Here in Merica, we use palm pilots instead of Girlyman flimsey weight cards that get wrinkled and run when you sweat...
Well,...he's got a point here.....
Hey - easy on the basketball - you're just sore because Tech hasn't "arrived" at that point yet;) ... I give them a couple of years, Greenburg's a good coach... This weekend should be interesting with Carolina coming to town.
I do keep sheets, just not electronically. I am anti-electronics in the Gym, there are too many folks taking up space on the machines, racks & aerobic equipment talking on friggin cell phones... I go to the gym to work out, not socialize! What do you think of the "Body for Life" program (Bill Philips)? What do you recommend? Thanks!

I just wondered how it worked
I don't know how long you have been training or what your goals are but anyway, one method I use is super setting antagonistic muscle groups. When you do two exercises in a row for the same muscle group, it tends to significantly limit the amount of weight you can use because of fatigue and lactic acid buildup. Pairing opposing (antagonistic) muscle groups together can help you keep your strength up because as one muscle is working, the opposite one is resting.
Don't be filling Rednecks head with technical bits about muscles cos he's never seen his. Just do us a favour, get round to his gym with a Long Tom (7foot Bullwhip to you boys) and lash him round his exercises on speed circuits, no rest. Send for the Cardiac Unit, the funeral director, then report back. Have fun.

Well what do expect from the donut arses? 350 million people, one rider who bangs in six hours a day, and wins. They don't even do anything apart from fantacise, you only have to read it on here. Blubber, blubber, blubber, they do that very well. Boil 'em down, keep the lamps a burning. They must have feckin' good incinerators when they are cremated, that's all can say. If they were buried in the ground you'd never get pall-bearers strong enough.
Good start then, you for the world championship, and young Phil to win a schoolies.

Got to agree - it's only by being out there and pedalling do ones actually train.
There is a lot of talk about cold weather and indoor rollers etc.
I only use the rollers if it is practically impossible to get out - otherwise I prefer outdoor cycling with as many miles as possible.
They need to forget about cycling on a stationary bike in a nice warm gym with
body beautifuls all round them.
None of the body beautifuls will be out there on the road - nor would they be able to an Etape.
No one ever saw Philippe Thys poncing around on a stationary bike.
No - he was out there balsting (and doing so on a fixed gear !)

Simple really, they spend money on you, we sort you out. Surely you don't think that major sponsors have the knowledge to run a Pro team.
Keep banging the miles in, in fact I wrote not to many messages ago, that I could do 200miles a day at your age. In the summer when we have longer days of course, I didn't stop for a break until I'd done about about 150miles, and that was at Zeeland, the cross roads for the Merseyside lads. I used to consider that I was home and hosed by that that time, only another 50 to go. As BRF says time and time again keep grafting, I had a vision of being a great rider, he's the same. We both ended up riding for money.
Now then young man, you are at an age whereby you can develop those cardio-vascular attributes to life on a bike, don't forget that I have noted your height and weight, and as far as I am concerned, they are ideal.
Now is the time, the right time to stick your head in the bucket of shite that is suffering. It's mind over matter.
Look at Lims ride in L'Etape du Tour, a mountain stage, he suffered like a dog, but he never packed, never gave way. Now that's balls for you, you see Phil, It's all about volition, attitude, perseverence, and big balls, no packers, and you know that you ain't come this far not to see the finishing line.
