The content of the Xes - Message Board article is:
26th December is a big cycling day - every year, over here.
All of the clubs are out either training or competing.
It's all about time off - roads are usually quiet anyway, even if your club has no run, there's nothing stopping you from getting out.
I was trawling thru something the other month, and came across the race reports from Littleboro RC, a Club quite local to me at the time. Some riders had entered a Boxing Day TT, they were from memory Gordon Harling, Ron Mellor, still winning, and a young rider who BRF should know by the name of Ken Nuttall (a junior). Anyway after a dismal showing in this TT, the club scribe set out his article for the Local paper, he put down the times, and then the lame excuses, and even wrote the title for once. 'LRC Riders All Drunk', was duly published on the back page.

No BRF im going to be recording my mileage on the 1/1/05. I will start before that as I will have more time as I am off school. The first will be when i start my really hard training, before then I will just build up to it, as on the 1st, I plan to train 6/7 days a week, thursday being my break day.
Why, didn't you think I was already training, I will be going on the fast sunday ride with my club this week if my dad can get me up there, ( I would ride up there, but its fifteen miles of dangerous motorways) And even if i don't get up there on Sunday, I will still be out riding. I plan to get out every Sunday, as much as possible with the club, if not, by myself.

You're hardly going to start on 1/01/05 ?
Make it January 2nd - after all you've got to get over New Years Eve
hangover, first.
Good point...

Redneck, That's increase by 5lbs upper, and 10lbs lower. NOT reps, they stay the same. I'd love to be in that gym following you about. Where's the charts? Pronto, pronto, it's nearly Jan.
just sent you an email... looking forward to more insults from you...
Thanks - it's actually good motivation. One day when I get to Europe, you can see what it'll produce in me.
Here's a free one...Cavalier whooo?
Looks like an in joke between the two testicles with writing on them. Come on Zap, no shit now, do you ride and lift. What are you doing about training, I know you're a joker. Serious now, do you want to turn Virginia into a laughing stock? Roadmen only. Are you in a club, or just a turdo shoveller? have a lie down before you answer.

Yes, I've just read it. It's like a tramps pocket. Nothing in it. Stop supping the beer, you get carried away. Do you what we say? When th'ales in, wits are out. I'm telling you stuff from the greatest weights Guru America has ever known, English of course, and a friend also. What do you do? Fuckin' ignore it. I learn't off the best in the world. I think he did four champions of 'The World's Strongest Man'. Off course he was about many more things, treatment of muscular injuries, diet, nutrition, etc. Many strings to his bow. Now get off your arse. Of course this doesn't apply to young Phil because he's 14 in Jan. Do you know who I've looked after after I finished racing? Well none of them were wankers. Get on with it, and there is no magic carpet. BRF keeps telling you that.
Oh Jesus, you're coming to Europe in a B52. Plenty of room for your donut arse then. What's your height and weight? No diuretics please, and that goes for Zap also.

Damn fred, you actually made me laugh...Unusual wit coming from you...Not in a club, lifted before I started to ride. I'm a CPT volunteer my services for the YMCA on occasion. I know more about body building than I do bikes but I have picked up a thing or two here concerning riding but..... I feel I have returned the favor by educating you, LIM, peabody etc about world affairs and the shortcomings of all liberals....You don't have to thank me....I consider it a public service :D
Zap - no mercy here from them... Thank God for Basketball season, that should be humbling for all you Hokies! Now, was it the Keydets? ;)
Fred - 5'11" 210 lbs.

Absolutely no chance of winning anything apart from the worlds fattest and laziest man. 15 stone of blubbering do nowt. Squats should be about 600lbs at least. Self discipline is obviously not on the agenda. What the fuckin hell did need a carbon frame for. You should have bought an Abrams. Now come on Zap, put him to shame.

That's right - no mercy whatsoever.
It's either the bike or weight-training.
Can't mix both - if you're intent on being a roleur.
I have to go with BRF on this one - I can't see how weight training would help
in cycling terms.
But don't mind me - I'm just an old bollox.

I think I'll stick with BBC public service.
Don't fancy having to view a set of your testicles - thank you very much.

there is definitely need for roleurs... I will never be a climber, it is not in my genetics... The only way I could ever drop that kind of weight is the Armstrong route - illness. At my absolute best form, I am 180-185 lbs, so I do indeed have my work cut out for me. Too much "laying around" on my arse, according to Fred... But, I know what is needed.

Weight is a problem for most cyclists - they're never satisfied with their weight.
I am 6ft 1inches and I weigh 15 stone (210 lbs).
This is too heavy - might be in relative proportion for my height, but in cycling terms, it is too heavy.
When I was competing - I was at 12.5 stone (175 lbs).
Ok old man, what are your stats?
I raced as a pro ( and before that) at 140-145lbs, I'm 5-8, and now at the age of 61, I weigh in at 155lbs. Rouleur, my arse, I rode against rouleurs from different places 5-11/ 6-0 weight. 155-160lbs limit. What's the difference. None really, everybody did 5 hours a day. There is a difference in jobs to be done. Your roller is more like a road roller, slow and thick stuff to be seen to.
I just knew you'd make it through the treacle, how about this Zap guy, he seems to have more balls than you. Unlike Lance from the the Lone Bollock State.

Phil, Nobody said you weren't training, we know you are dedicated to the task ahead, don't any notice of Redneck, he's a about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Real men come from Europe.

Sorry to crack you pancake with laughter. Wit, and sarcasm, if you only knew what went before. Given the opportunity from the tosspot posters on cycling forums various I don't do it anymore, why 'cos you Merkins go home and tell your parents that someone said nasty things, and get me banned. Give me England and the UK and Ireland people anytime. I am sure that people on this site will vouch for my sarcasm, including the Eurosport commentators, they love my irreverent stuff, that's why the USA can Fcuk off, apart from Redneck.
What's a CPT, corporal punishment trainee? Oddly enough Tony Fitton had no time for body sculptors, he never commented on them, well he did. Nuff said.
Please keep this site to athletic achievement of a physical nature. There is ample opportunity to further our propositions on sites that of that topic.
Please tell us why, for example you took an interest in body sculture. We can all learn something from physical and mental endeavour. GOTTIT?

Don't mind the BRF - he's got a different lifestyle to you and he can afford to pedal around all the time.
Presumably you've got school/homework and then you've got to chase girls etc.
So the priority is school/homework :and then cycling, in that order.
(plenty of time for girls, later !!!!).
Cycling is all about slow buildup - you build your stamina, step by step.
no use going out breaking your back one day and then taking a week off.
You build it slowly - try to get out as often as you can.
If you can't get out - get on the turbo.
Ideally Sat and Sun should be training/racing days : every weekend.
No excuses.
During the week - three sessions, two hours per session.
You're playing other sports as well - aren't you ?
The three weekly seesions on the bike is enough : if you drop the other sports, increase the cycling.
The weekends should be when you try to increase the time of the sessions.
Try to get six hours in between Sunday and Saturday.
If you feel good one day, do 4 hours, and then 2 on the other.
Split it whatever way you feel like as it happens : but aim for 6 hours each weekend.
Buy yourself a diary - and record the distance and time that you cycle for,
during each and every session.
(or get a jotter and write the stuff in to it - with dates and times).
Also try to record how you feel after the session (was it easy/tough ??)
in your diary/jotter.
That way you will have a record that you can refer to because you won't accurately remember how you performed.

While I like to be able to ride as much as humanly possible, I do have responsibilities that limit my riding time, and it's a matter of perspective. First & foremost, I would rather spend the time with my children (and sometimes my wife!).
My training plan is to get up very early, before the rest of the house and do my training then. My gym is open 24 hours, so that is not an issue. I am with you on the weight issue. I have a larger frame, so I can carry more weight (as opposed to someone with narrow shoulders, smaller bones, etc...) but in terms of cycling, I am way overweight. It's amazing how quickly that weight comes back. When, during the summer, I was riding on a daily basis (during my lunch break) I was 20 lbs less, so it has come back with a vengence. I feel like Jan Ullrich & I definitely understand how he can have that problem every year. However, the older I get, the harder it gets to drop.

It is difficult - if there are demands on your time.
That's why the BRF solution - isn't a catch all for everyone.
In an ideal world - we'd all love to be cycling 24 hours per day but I am afraid
life just doesn't work that way.
But none of us should this as an excuse not to cycle.
I make time to cycle.

Absolutely no excuse at all. I'm going to put you on steroids, then you should make a quarter-back. Large frame? I've still got a 44in chest. I watch what I eat, always have done. You must have legs like a snooker table, and an arse as big as a supertanker. I thought (silly me) that you still went out in your lunch hour. You're paying for that now. You must be guzzling like a cruise liner passenger. The reason you and Ullrich (no comparison actually) put on weight is because you don't get off your backsides in the winter, and keep shovelling shit down that hole in the front of your face. Now go and get some graph paper. So you're telling me that you workout in the gym 3 times a week, and you use the turdo at home. I'm not buying it. If, and when you get back on your bike you'll think that somebody's let your tyres down. Now stick your hand up your arse and pull yourself together. OooH My Gaawd, you've got Christmas yet, that'll be another 10lbs at least.
