Ok, so Im doing a writing assignment on comparing Lance Armstrong to a mythological character. I just wanted to know if you guys could tell me what a "stage" is in the Tour de France, and other races.

The Tour de France is the most prestigious "stage race." It consists of ~20 "stages," or individual race. This is a little oversimplifying, but a stage race is essentially a bunch of bike races put together as one big race.
