25.4 bar in 26 stem

Any trouble with using a 25.4 bar in an "open face" 26 stem with a "face
plate"?
I wouldn't think so but I wouldn't want to find out I was wrong after I
suffer the consequences of not asking.

Not certain what difference the faceplate makes, but there are shims
available. Someone posted one link; Nitto also has them (or the link
shows Nittos without being named) and your LBS should be able to get
them easily.

Use a shim. 0.6mm = about 0.024", so you need a shim that's about
..012" thick. This would be more layers of soda can than I'd be
comfortable with, especially on handlebars. Even though the clamp
might appear able to grip the bars without a shim, it almost certainly
won't be safe that way.

Probably bottom the face plate and the hbars will still be loose.

There are some shims out there to help this.

I tried finding them in the QBP catalog but couldn't. I'm pretty sure
they're there, though.

"Pop Top" ("pillow block") stems are generally much less fussy about
small differences in bar size than one-bolt stems, because they don't
rely on flexing the stem to clamp the bar. If it clamps the bar without
the top and bottom faces coming into contact, you should be fine.

Thanks for the plug. One of the things about the online Quality
catalogue is that if a product is out of stock at QBP, it won't be
displayed in the catalogue...even if _we_ have it in stock.

Using a piece of emory cloth that is glued to bar works fine. I used
Crazy Glue.

Gary, go down to local liquor store, buy a Sapporo in a can (big 20 0z
silver can), drink the beer, then cut shim out of can. Sapporo cans are the
best in the business for a great and reliable shim. The aluminum is THICKER
then regular soda or beer cans and will be perfect for a 25.4 to 26.0 shim.

A while back there was a thread about seatpost shims in which poster
claimed that mylar is the perfect material for making shims. Many people
have collaborated this claim.

..012", IIRC, is standard light-duty aluminum drip edge flashing for
shingle roofing. Home Depot probably has it for under $5 per 10 foot
length. Any roofing supply warehouse will definitely have it. It may
be .019", however, especially in regions with heavy winters. That
would work too for a stem with a faceplate (not one-bolt).
