The young guy from Fassa gets his first win in a small
breakaway group from just 8K out on the hilly as hell
finishing miles. I thought cricket Bettini would win but he
was out-muscled.
It's my bet you're going to hear a lot more from
Filippo Pozzato.

First win my ass. The guy, albeit only 22 yo, already won a
few dozens races, including the GC of a 2.HC race, '03 Tirreno-
Adriatico.

Here, near the heart of the cycling civilization, we have
already heard a lot more than that about SuperPippo Pozzato.
If you've never heard of him before, it's beacuse you are
blocked in a remote corner of the cycling world.

He's been on the radar in Italian cycling for a year or two.
I think Tosi mentioned him here in the past (if you got past
the spittle-flecked raving about racial purity).

For a few years he was clearly going to be a top guy. I
think he won the junior or espoir worlds, the Tour of Cuba
and either the GP Etruschi (sp) or Trofeo Laguillega (sp
also) in the last few years. Plus there was talk inside his
team of riding for him in the sprint at Milan-San Remo if
Pettachi lost contact wtih the front of the race. And I
think he got top ten at Het Volk two or three years ago.

True! The guy has class. Reminds me of the young VDB.
Pozzato never raced in the Espoirs category. From the
Juniors straight to the pros. Amazing.
