Cycling from Zeebrugge
Hi,

6 of us are planning to cycle for a week in Belgian, cycling from Zeebrugge. Could anyone out there please let me know if this is a good idea!!!!

We are looking for good cycle routes, good countryside, small villages/towns, camp sites, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mark

I do not know how you plan to sleep (camp/hostels/B&B etc) but I would ride west from Zeebrugge along the coast. Go inland towards Gistel or follow the coast further to Nieuwpoort from there you can find a really nice canal (ijzerdijk - Iijzer - Ieperlee)that will take you all the way to Ieper via Diksmuide. From there you have the kemmelburg & nice hilly roads just to the south. You then want to get to Avelgem to the East without going into Kortrijk. I would ride to Wevelgem & get onto the canal heading SE at Zwevegem. You then have a almost car free ride to the Tour of Flanders terrain that separates Flanders from the French speaking Walloons to the south. You just cross to the other side of the inverted T junction that denotes the end of the canal & head for the big hill that you can see & your home free for miles of car free roads with all those famous cobbled climbs. You will need to do some map work to find the best ones. I would head east through the hills taking in Brackel & the muur etc towards Brussels. Then go north into Holland avoiding Ghent to the west.

regards Phil
