View Full Version : Tour of Germany
Hi all,
I just read on www.cyclingnews.com that there is a "fun" ride component to the Tour of Germany. It is similiar to letape du tour in that participants can ride a stage of the Tour (before the pro's). In this instance though you can do each stage of the Tour (before the pro's) with closed roads and 2000 other competitors.

I am interested in doing this next year but being from Australia I do not speak German and would like some further information on this event.
Has anyone done this event? How much does it cost?
luke1972,

Thanks,
It looks like an interesting event though.

Tour of Germany
I've never done it, but it looks like a lot of fun. According to their web site, the Giant-Tour is limited to 50 participants, and will take place next year from August 15-23. You can do a single stage for 35 Euros (current prices) or do the entire tour for 490 Euros. This includes 100% closed roads (it starts farther down the stage from where the pros start, but finishes at the same place), pasta party after each stage, broom wagon, transponder to keep track of your time, t-shirt, Giant-Tour jersey,ua. You are responsible for your hotel and all transfers. The "Transferpaket" is 150 Euros and includes 7 transfers in buses to the next stage start, plus the transfer of bicycles and luggage. With the "Unterkunftspaket Gold" (199 Euros) you get the same as above, plus overnight accomodations in locations such as gyms and schools (indoor camping). The "Unterkunftspaket Platin" (995 Euros) adds overnights in hotels, and buffet breakfast and dinner in the hotel.
Hope this helps.
I am not sure where you got the figure of 50 riders from because in the reports on cyclingnews it says there that they had 2000 starters in the first stage. I am assuming anyone can ride this tour in you pay the entry fee
